Did You Ever Have One of Those Weeks?

This just wasn't a great week around our house. It started when I woke up with a pinched something in my neck last Saturday and still had to drive the 75 miles to see the in-laws at the nursing home. My MIL was entirely different than she had been the week before. She knew who we were when we got there, but she barely said a word, didn't smile and didn't seem to understand anything we were saying. We really thought that maybe we had seen the last of the mother we knew. It was so sad. But, we talked to them a couple of days later and she sounded better. Tonight on the phone, she was talking, laughing and sounded like herself. What a blessing!

While we enjoyed getting the countertop on Monday and the plumbing hooked up in the kitchen on Wednesday...we didn't enjoy the ants that came for a visit this week. The exterminator was here yesterday, I haven't seen an ant since he left. We also had some trouble with our almost 15-year-old beagle. Let's just say that I was looking up doggy diapers online, but after she spent today at the vet we learned that some medicine they put her on a week ago for a rash, has a side effect of loss of bladder control. She has been taken off the meds and the carpet cleaners are coming on Monday (along with the dryer repair guy...it fell apart this week too).

I think the lesson this week is that when life gets a bit overwhelming, just cross things off the list one at a time and things will get better!

So, after one of those weeks...you know what I did to feel better? I baked cookies!

White Chocolate Macadamia Nut Cookies

1 cup butter, softened
1 1/2 cups sugar
1 cup packed brown sugar
2 eggs
1 1/2 tsp. vanilla
3 cups flour
1/2 tsp baking soda
1 tsp salt
2 cups white chocolate chips
1 1/2 cups Macadamia nuts

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Cream butter and sugars until fluffy. Add vanilla and eggs, beat well.

Blend in flour, baking soda and salt. Stir in chips and nuts.

Drop by teaspoon onto ungreased cookie sheets.
Bake 12 minutes.

*This is a Ghirardelli recipe and I prefer using Ghirardelli white chocolate chips.

Awww! Sue I am sorry! You have had a bad week. Why on earth did the Vet not tell you there would be bladder control probs.? :(
Sure hope you have a great weekend as you do deserve one.

Hi Sue,
Sounds like you have had a roller coaster week.
Up and down and around we go!! Yea, I have had some of those weeks, but you are so right.....
sometimes you just gotta have a cookie or some kind of dessert to make you feel better!! lol
So glad your MIL seems to be doing better.
Hope doggie is back to normal soon or at least before the carpet cleaners come.

And crossing things off the list...........
I love doing that......gives me such a sense of POWER! Yea!! lol

Have a great weekend my friend, and next week will probably be a much better week.

Blessings, Nellie

I swear, we live parallel lives! I am so sorry to hear about your MIL. I am dealing with hospice and my MIL too. She is 2 hours away from us and we are now running back and forth! It is very very sad!
And we are also redoing our kitchen!
Too bad I just can't drop by and have a couple of those delicious cookies and just chat!
Take good care of yourself!

I'm having a similar week, Sue. Two trees fell from a neighbor's yard into ours, and now we are having to pay a tree company a king's ransom to remove them. But the good news? They didn't hit the house, and the tree company moved us to the front of the line because we are in a mutual fan club... I love them, and I guess they feel the same. LOL! Our power was also out for 24 hours, and everything in the fridge died. We misssed the garbage truck, so that junk is in the garage. ;-) BUT, the city (when I called) told me I was the only person who had been nice to her all day, and my power came on within the house. Coincidence? ;-)

Then due to all of the confusion I didn't get to have my bloggy day with my friends who were coming to St. Augustine. BUT I did get to see them for thirty minutes, and it was so worth it. I adore them.

Then Mr. Magpie caught what appears to be a flu virus. How? I have no clue! I left town, so I'm hoping he will get some rest (he hates to talk, and a sore throat makes him really silent). I feel bad for him, and I hope I don't come down with it. I thought I was this morning, but I stayed in bed longer which seems to have helped.

Just all sorts of craziness. But I'm alive and eating my supper at 11:16 at night, and my nerve pills of choice are chocolate chip cookies... I polished off a bag... too lazy to cook! ;-) Oh, and Publix let me in even though I got there about a minute before closing. YEA!

I like the idea of crossing things off the list... that's a good one! Hope next week is better for both of us!

Warm hugs...

XO,

Sheila :-)

Sorry you had a rough week, Sue, but I am glad it got better! I am a list maker and I love crossing things off as they are accomplished, and, of course, a cookie always makes anything better. xo,

Well, it's a New Moon so just blame it all on that! :-) So sorry the week turned out like it did but hey, cookies are always good for the soul. This cookie is one of my son's favorites and this is a reminder that I haven't made them in a long time. Thanks for sharing!

Sending you positive energy for better days my friend.
xoxo

What is it about last week. We had a crazy week too, but ours has been filled with hospital visit after hospital visit after my dad went in for back pain and it turned out to be an abdominal aneurysm that was threatening to burst. He has had two surgeries and waiting for the one that is needed to patch the whole thing up but he is not strong enough to go under yet. On top of all that, they found a valve that needs repair and a blockage in his carotid artery.

Very scary times over here. Oh, and on top of all of that I have my nephew to care for all week till my sister in law and brother get back from their honeymoon-- they left before all this happened.
