Camera Shopping...Opinions Wanted

There is a new camera in my immediate future. I've had 2 Sony Cybershots and I really liked them, but my current one is not acting quite right and it is old enough that I think a new one is called for. I want a point and shoot, no changing lenses for me. I would prefer it to fit in my pocket so I don't have to carry a camera bag. Sometimes I really don't like to draw attention to the fact that I have a camera. I'd like it to have a few more bells and whistles than I've had. I want to be able to take pictures of the moon and fireworks as well as food, tablescapes and grandchildren!

I'm considering these 3 cameras, do any of you own them? Love them? Hate them? I'd appreciate any advice or suggestions you have!

Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ40 14.1 MP Digital Camera with 24x Optical Image Stabilized Zoom and 3.0-Inch LCD

I notice that the three cameras don't have an optical viewfinder, which I consider an important feature.
I'm a fan of Nikon but I can't recommend any specific model as I'm not familiar with their latest models (my camera is a basic one).
Good Luck in finding the right camera for you!

I have one very similar to the 2nd Canon one above (mine is only 10 mp). It takes good pictures, but it is a bit bulky in my opinion and I also dislike the fact that I have to manually lift open the flash. If that doesn't bother you, though, then it might be a good camera for you. Good luck! Tina H

I had the Panasonic Lumix FZ 7 before a wave got it last summer.....I loved it!

Right now I am giving my SLR camera a break (except for rare occasions when I have my husband with me). I simply cannot handle the lenses, a toddler and two big brothers at the same time.

So I gave the family a tiny Canon camera for Christmas, and it is great because it does fit in the pocket. However....I miss my zoom. The panasonic had great zoom, did everything I needed it to do plus more, and it was soooo easy to use. I miss it! BTW I never had any trouble with it until a wave caught it, and I had it for about 3 1/2 years.

Good Morning Sue Sweetie...
What a beautiful share today. I love cameras. We don't have any of these, wish I did, as I too have been dreaming about that Canon with the 35x wide lens. A girl can dream right? I only have a small pocket Nikkon, takes okay pictures, but oh what I would give for one that I could really zoom in on.

Hope you are well sweet one. I have been thinking of you. How is your sweet Daddy doing? Good I pray.

Loved your table setting in your previous post. You can set one mean table girl. I would love to sit down and have tea one day.

Many hugs and SO much love to you, Sherry

I only have a Kodak pocket camera and know nothing of any of these. I'm sure they are all good. Just read the reviews on ea one, tho.

I have a variety of digital SLR cameras but almost always use my Nikon Coolpix P6000. I think there are different versions of the Coolpix and some of them are not good cameras. Mine is a couple of years old now so there may be a newer version. But the "P6000" is the one I have and it is AMAZING. Easy to use and it does SO much. I took photos of the fireworks over the lake last year and my camera took better ones than most of the SLR cameras that night. It's not a cheap camera though - I think I paid around $450-$550 for it at the time? It fits in my purse and it's compact and I just love it. I've even taken videos with it and they come out GREAT!

Sorry - I am of no help. I need a new camera also, but don't know where to start. I am like you - don't want one that I have to change out the lens.
Enjoy your weekend.

Gosh, I have no advice. When in doubt, and if possible, pick the pretty color, though! ha!

Love that picture of you and your sister and your Dad in your sidebar!

I have an older Canon Power Shot...mine is 8 mega pixals...I like everything about it except the time between shots...it's a bit slow, for action shots you better be right or you could lose it. But for the most part it is a good camera. Go to www.dg.com He talks about a lot of camera and there was even a search of prices at different stores, both on-line and real to compare prices when I went on.

Mine is similar to the 2nd one and I like it a lot!
Can't go wrong with Canon's!
Hope all is well with you too.
We are still cold and I am soooo ready for winter to end.
Hugs,

Hi Sue! My husband is the "camera guy" and he bought me a Lumix a couple of years ago and I love it! It's so easy to use and handy...small enough for the pocket and I use it every single day! It's a few years older version of what you are showing here but perfect for blogging and everything else!
Good luck on your choice!

I have no idea about cameras - even though I've always secretly like photography.

Treat yourself to the best one. :) You deserve it.

UPDATE: I bought the second one...I liked the size of it, not too big but still has a few new bells and whistles.

I was going to ask my son, but he went to New Orleans on a photo shoot. I see you bought one though and it sounds like a goodie. The one thing I do want to tell you though is to shoot the moon and fireworks, I highly recommend a decent tripod. It's impossible to get a decent shot without one when the light is low.

Can't wait to see how this camera works out for you. My Coolpix is almost seven years old and while I still like what it can do, I want to expand my options. I really want one with interchangeable lenses, so I can really zoom in one birds and a macro lens for sure. I have a feeling it will be a while though, lol.
