Wearing Out Grandma and Grandpa

When our little guys come for the weekend, we are always looking for ways to wear them out. At 3 1/2 and almost 2, they have so much more energy than Grandma and Grandpa do! After writing about Stephen Forbes State Park last week, I was reminded of the beach there and we decided that sunshine and water are a sure cure for getting a good night's sleep when children are young.

I grew up spending summers at a lake in Illinois.
I'd forgotten just how brown the sand is
and how murky the water can be.

I think I'm spoiled by the beaches where we go
in Florida and Michigan. White sand, clear
water...I like that so much better!

My little guys, they liked this beach just fine!

It was really fun to run and "plop" into the water.
I was so glad he didn't land on a rock!

After drying off and a stop at the playground, Grandma
and Grandpa were hungry. Catfish Curls were
on the menu at the marina restaurant.

We stopped at an area peach orchard. The
same family owns a winery, where the
nectarines were heavy on the trees.

Orchard View Winery is known for their wine made with Illinois
fruits. It is delicious wine. We let the boys enjoy the band
that was playing, but no wine drinking for us this trip.
We had precious cargo to take care of.

After arriving safely at home, the boys took
a short drive up and down the driveway.

A good time was had by all. The boys left around noon on Sunday
and Grandma and Grandpa slept very well Sunday night.

I'm linking this to Outdoor Wednesday with our hostess
Susan @ A Southern Daydreamer. Please take a moment
to visit her and see all the other posts this week.

You sound just like my parents! They are always thinking of ways to tire out the grands when they are staying over! I bet they wish they had a beach like that to visit every day!

Happy days with your grandkids Sue!

Best wishes,
Natasha.

Hi, what lovely grandsons you have, mine lives over 200 miles away and while we are running a tourist attraction don'tget to see him until November! Our beaches in North Devon, UK are pretty much like that, where they aren't just pebbles. Thanks for the comment on my post, Slowworms are lovely really just lizards with no legs.

Aren't you so fortunate to have grandchildren and be at the age where you can enjoy them. You are creating wonderful memories for them and a love of family! I have always loved going to lakes. I loved how you said you wanted to tire them out and at the end of their visit you were the ones that slept well. Cute post, I enjoyed it! Joan

It looks like they had a blast! I try to wear out my little ones every day, but it never works, as soon as we get home they are ready for more adventures, and I am ready for a nap.

Ahhhh, what a great time with the little ones! They are blessed to have you in their lives, Grandparents are sooooo important! The beauty is if they wear you out, you get to give them back to the parents!

What sweet little boys.

This reminds me of my childhood...we spent every day in the summer splashing around in the lake and our town was surrounded by fruit orchards and vineyards. Oh, those were the days. Life was so simple back then. It's been way too long since I have immersed myself in the coolness of a lake.

My Grands are about the same age. My grandson just turned 2 in July and my granddaughter will be 4 in October. It is very good to wear them out! I was also glad to see the paci in the younger ones mouth, as our grandson still sports his!! It was his mom's way of weaning him from the breastfeeding!
