Pears and Blackberries-Tablescape Thursday

This week's tablescape was inspired by my bargain shopping last weekend. After spending time working at my in-laws house, we had a little time for some shopping. I don't have much luck at the Goodwill stores that I have visited, but I was happy with the set of 6 salad plates that I found last week. They were only 56 cents each!

I started with a tablecloth and napkins that was my mother's. I don't think it had ever been used. She had 2 sets and they are sized for a card table, but I used it anyway. Things don't always have to fit perfectly! I love the detailed appliqué.

I used silver chargers, hunter green square dinner plates (WalMart) and the new to me salad plates. They are marked "Totally Today Made in China". I couldn't find the pattern name. The flatware is Rogers Bros. Adoration, purchased at a garage sale. The wine glasses are Libby, from a resale shop in Florida.

I brought home the silver tray that I'm using as a centerpiece from my mom's collection of silver. It is my favorite piece of all that I brought home. I love the shape and size of it. I lined it with faux pears and blackberries.

The poached pears are in an antique cut glass compote. I will not be posting the recipe. I've never tried making them before and while they may taste good (we don't know yet) they are not pretty. Oh well, some things just don't go the way you want them to.

I tried tall candlesticks with the tablescape, but they just didn't work. I placed a votive at each place setting to add a little glow for the evening.

I am joining Susan @ Between Naps on the Porch for Tablescape Thursday. Please visit our wonderful hostess to see all of the beautiful tables this week.

Sue, thanks for sharing about FL and the hurricanes. So true, I want to stay away from those too. If I was going that far south, I guess it would be the northeast of Florida, and a couple of miles inland perhaps.

This is so pretty Sue!
I was thinking of you today when I stopped in a thrift store {with no time to spare...but 5 minutes} and found 2 more of my mother's pattern!
A platter and veggie bowl!
soooo excited to see that... another gift from Mom after a hectic 2 weeks!

I love the fruit pattern... Doesn't Mikasa make something very, very similar?
Your centerpiece is perfect... I love it's simplicity ...and how it glows with the candlelight.

Thank you so much for your very kind comments, Sue ~ There are so many angels out here... and you are one of them!

Oh, I like this one.

Honey, your pears just need less cooking. They should be "al dente". Also, try using red wine to poach them in. The deep burgundy hue adds a dimension of elegance. jackie

I think it looks beautiful! You were smart to use the lower candles & the glow of them on your Mom's silver is just beautiful.

I love your blog. I miss my Mama, too, and I love using her silver trays, just like you. Nice editing choice on the taper candles. The votives were a bit magical. The new salads are lovely. Thank you for sharing your charming design. Cherry Kay
