Sometimes Miracles Do Happen

It is funny how things work out sometimes. Something happens that you just can't explain and truthfully, I'm not sure I even want an explanation. I sort of like letting my imagination run wild with this one. As most of you know, I spent a few weeks recently in Florida, going through my mother's belongings. Actually, I didn't just go through her things, I went through almost everything in their home, organizing in ways that would be easier for my dad.

Late one evening I was going through a drawer full of paperwork, envelopes and various "stuff". In the midst of saved banking information, medical paperwork and bookwork...I found my parent's wedding pictures. I have a copy of one of their wedding pictures at my house, but I'd never seen the rest of the pictures. I grabbed my camera and took "pictures of the pictures" so I would have a set of them safely stored somewhere. I sat them aside and finished the drawer. About an hour later, when I was working on a different drawer, from a different place in the house...I found an envelope of old pictures and clippings. In that envelope was the newspaper announcement from my parent's wedding. Coincidence? I don't know.

The best part of this story is that when I called my dad into the room to see what I'd found the look on his face was priceless. He thought the wedding pictures had been lost when a prior home had flooded. He didn't think he still had any of his wedding pictures and he had them all. What a blessing for all of us. Thankfully, I looked in every envelope at every item before throwing anything away.

Today, I'll share a few of the pictures and take you back to 1947...

They are all named Bob

Look at those outfits my grandmothers were wearing!

Weren't they cute and so very young!

Oh my Sue, what a fantastic surprise that must have been for both you and your dad. The photos are really telling the story of your parents wedding, and I almost feel like I am there.

What a beautiful young bride your mother was, and your dad looks so handsome and youthful.

Old family pictures are priceless. We live in a
constantly changing world and pictures like these give us a sense of stability, of belonging, of historical perspective.

We could also learn a lot from these photographs about fashion, hairstyles, and make comparisons of then and now. Wedding pictures are the cherry of the cake. Thanks for sharing.

Hi Sue! I love these photos... in fact your story about finding them is awesome!
When things like this happen, I call them divine appointments!
Amazing when you are in that "moment" when everything comes together... It's like to momentum of the universe brought you right there!
It takes me so long to go through things before "chucking" it in the garbage for this very reason... You never know what's in that bag or in those envelopes!
Wow... Sue ... fabulous find!
I'm going to post a few pics of my mother... Her wedding dress seems very similar to you mother's...
My brother just received a shirt box from his Godmother, who is in her 80's... photos of our mother no one has ever seen... they were hers, and she's passing them along to us! We were soooo excited. I took pics of about 80 of them ...just to have until we figure out what to do.
so wonderful, these precious memories~
Good luck with your modem ... maybe someone has an "older model" you can borrow?
