Winter Wonderland

My goal this year was to use silver, white, turquoise and jewel tones to create a winter look that wouldn't be screaming at me to take it down immediately after Christmas. My family has always teased me about wanting to take the tree down as the last present is opened. I really do put things away very quickly because I'm usually so sick of looking at them. I hope that maybe this year I've used a few things that can stay out through the winter. The vintage silver tray and compote were my mother's. I've used them on the library table at the top of the stairs. A mercury glass turquoise votive, silver and white seashell balls and a lidded jar full of jewel tone ornaments add a bit of color to this part of the house.

The opposite side of the table holds a snowy white church
and a collection of sparkling trees.

The book was a favorite of my children's.
 It brings back many memories.

I don't think you can ever go wrong when you add vintage postcards.

My china cabinet is a bit unusal this year. The fox was a HomeGoods find. I bought it thinking it would look so cute curled up under the tree, until I realized that I couldn't have a tree on the floor with the new puppy. Wouldn't that fox tail be fun to chew on?? So, I put some fresh greenery on top of the cabinet and added the fox, a wintery birdhouse, some snowballs and an icy wreath. I know the fox is a little large for the spot, but I don't care...I like him.

The cloche holds a reindeer of my grandmother's and an ornament from my in-law's just to add a little of the turquoise to this space.

I did buy a new wreath for the wall above the stairway. It isn't showing up in the picture the way it really looks. Our walls are a fairly dark taupe and the wreath is heavily snow covered greenery with pinecones. I wanted something I could leave out all winter and this is perfect.

Your vignettes are so pretty! The fox looks right at home with the greenery! I love that birdhouse, too! I like to leave some of my mercury glass candle holders out year round. The candlelight looks so pretty!

Are you ready for the cold weather they are predicting? Time to get out the heavy winter coat!

Have a great week, Sue!

It looks very pretty and Seasonal rather than Christmas-y. I DO think you can use it long past the Holidays. I'm like you- I can barely wait for New Year's Day to be over to take things down. (I'm kinda the same way with a bed-As soon as MyHero is up and goes to the bathroom the bed is made!;) Sad, isn't it? I hope you are having a great week so far! xo Diana

It's really pretty! I'm loving blues & turquoise this year. I don't think the fox is too big but I like oversized stuff!

I usually like to leave a few things up in January, especially new things. Your wintery things will be perfect. My mom always kept things up until my birthday which is 2 weeks after Christmas so I like to do the same thing but by then I really am ready.

What beautiful colors! I'll be curious if the theory works. I don't usually put my things up until Mid-December because I get tired of them, too.

Or maybe we should just decorate with candy...then the decorations would self destruct!

Sue, I'm usually in quite a hurry to put things away as well. But then everything looks so bare. So I started waiting until Christmas was all packed up to put my snowmen, snowflakes, skates, sleds etc out. Then I enjoy them for some of the winter. Until I'm sick of winter!!!!!

We are the same way around here. The tree comes down usually the day after Christmas. Maybe this year we will both do better!

I am so far behind in my visiting but...I think of you often. Things will slow down after the holidays. :)

I just love your color combination this year, Sue! Silver is such a perfect color to last all winter. And your fox is adorable.

I'm the same way about Christmas decorations ~ they come down asap! I'm always ready to get back to "normal"...whatever that is these days. I have such a mess right now due to the painting, I feel like I'm living in a snow globe without the snow. Your things are very pretty ~ I LOVE the silver tray, compote and trees. I always have some mercury glass out ~ it's a real favorite.
