A Little Old, A Little New

With two library tables in my living/great room, I always have a space to put favorite seasonal decorations. This is the library table that sits behind our loveseat and you see it as you walk in our front door. This table belonged to my paternal grandmother.

I didn't change much on the spool cabinet that we brought home from my in-law's house. A simple reindeer and a hint of aqua ribbon is all that was necessary.

The coffee table got a bit of bling in the form of jewel tone "disco ball" ornaments. There was an unexpected surprise from these new Hobby Lobby ornaments. On the days when we have sunshine (which have been few), the entire room lights up with brilliant color for a short while. It is magical.

The Jolly Old Santa Claus book is a favorite treasure of mine.

It was published in 1958 by Ideals Publishing and it was such a treat when I was a child and this book came out of hiding for the year. I was always fascinated by the two pages that showed the elves making the glass ornaments in the big fireplaces. The rich colors and details impressed me as a toddler and still take my breath away today. I recently found out that this book  has become valuable, but I'd never part with mine.

What a beautiful post, Sue. I do remember that book from when I was a child. How fortunate that you have your own.

Your desk is gorgeous. How nice that you have it to remember your family that had it! xo Diana

The book looks magical...I can see why it is valuable! Santa just doesn't look like he used to in illustrations.

Your decorations are so pretty...you are really good with the mesh and I've always loved your bows. Pretty colors, too!

Jane

All your photos are lovely but I was really struck by the beautiful arrangement on the table with the aqua balls. That is my favorite color and it looks so pretty with silver! So many lovely places to put a little Christmas cheer!

A wonderful treasure to have. I love the illustrations in the older children's books. What a nice surprise from the ornaments. The sun reflects off my candle holders like that, but have not been able to get a good picture. Like you, wished it would last longer.
Went somewhere today that used the blue and silver decorations on the Christmas tree and then had a table set up with a Menorah and other blue and silver ornaments. Everything with so pretty and wished I had my camera with me.

Hi Sue!
Oh I've been a blogging delinquent :o) I've really slowed down with posting and visiting, but haven't forgotten everyone! I still have to stop by Yvonne @ Stone Gable... I read her last post and am sad to see her "retire" but well understand her reasoning. I'm glad to see her posting new entries to Pinterest though.

I posted my snowflake directions during my lunchtime. I have a very early lunch this year and am not hungry at 10:45! I thought I would take a peek at my blog and discovered today that I could actually upload a photo to my blog! Since I had all those pictures in my computer at school about making the snowflake, I thought it would be fun post about it. The directions were ready and the collage of photos too ~ It was the fastest post I've ever done, finishing just as the bell rang at 11:15!
Your recent posts are wonderful, Sue! I've missed stopping here. Your "Night Before Christmas" mouse book is so adorable, the pretty blue and silver ornaments in this post and I LOVE your chickadee dishes! I saw them at T J. Maxx last week and ooooo did I want to buy some! I refrained because we are still trying to find places for things after the kitchen redo!

I'll be working until the 23rd... a full day too! I hope you and your family are well ~ and ...

I wish you a wonderful, beautiful week ~ enjoy all the days before Christmas, Sue!
God bless you and all the family,
~Maria

Morning Sue,
Thanks for stopping by hon, good to hear from you. Know you must be getting excited about coming to Florida to see your daughter. Hope you have a wonderful trip and time together.

Had to go back and catch up on what you have been up to, I did come the other day but didn't have time to leave a comment. Your tablescape with the lil birdies on the plate,
was just so beautiful, loved how it looked with the lights out so glitzy and festive.
Also liked your craft project of the book with the lil mouse on top, very cute, and you did a very nice job on it.
and love that shade of blue, especially in mercury glass, have you seen any, it will make your heart sing.........it is so pretty.
Those colorful disco balls are beautiful, and love that it makes your room light up with color like that.......love random things that happen like that.......such fun!!
Your home looks very warm and welcoming.
We finally got our lights up outside last night, we have the icicle lights, but we decided since we were so late to just drape them on the bushes and it looks great and was
very quick and easy. Yep, that works for us!! lol
I'm not doing great in the card dept. either,
I send them out as they send them in........
terrible, I am thinking about doing a valentines or spring card and letter, that way at least friends hear from you but it makes it
less stressful at Christmas time. I have been sending ecards to those I can in the last years. When the kids were home I used to do a letter every year to put in the Christmas cards, and I love getting them and hearing all about what is going on in long time friends lives that we don't see all year.
The last years I have been all about having a no stress Christmas, and I am hooked and employing more tips all the time.
Take care, and have a wonderful Christmas,
Blessings, Nellie
