A Change Would Do You Good

I have had Sheryl Crow's song A Change Would Do You Good, in my head for weeks now. I finally decided to act on it. You may have thought that I had disappeared for good from the Blogosphere, but I haven't. As you all know, life has been very hectic around our house for months and we still have another hurdle to get past in a little over a week. It has been really difficult for my husband to lose both parents so close together and the unfortunate thing about men is that they don't show how they are feeling. I cried daily after my mom died and I think that was a good thing. He has just been very quiet. So, we packed up the car last Monday and headed to Michigan to climb the dunes, stroll through the galleries and just get away from it all for a few days. We got home yesterday and somehow, by last night I had the flu. So, my plan to jump back into blogging today isn't going the way I thought it would. I did take my camera, so eventually there will be lots of pictures to share.

I don't really know what it is going to be like for any of us to watch this auction. The sale bill above barely touches on the amount of "stuff" my in-laws had collected. My sister-in-law and my husband have taken the few items that they wanted and the items that my mother-in-law had labeled as old family pieces. The 3 grandchildren have also taken a few things but there is still a lifetime of collecting being sold. I wish some of you lived close enough to come because if you like antiques...this will be a great sale. I think it will be really difficult for my husband and his sister, but I also know that they will both feel better once this part is over.

So, between stress, travel, flu and a big auction coming in a few days...getting back to "normal" just isn't on the list yet. Soon...I hope, really soon.

I remember breaking up my parent's home (I lived 24 hours away and didn't take much), it was emotional. I wish you and your husband well. I do wish men could cry it out more -- it really helps. Joni

Glad ya'll were able to get away for a while, but sorry you got sick. Take care - you don't want the flu to go into pneumonia.
I know you all will be glad when the sale is over.

It sounds like this little escape was just what you and your husband needed before you had to dig back into the craziness of selling everything.

I have been thinking about you Sue!

Wish I could be there to give you a hug or help out.
We are just settling my mom's estate, and will be putting the farm up for sale soon. I think I will also feel better when it is all finished.

Sue, hope you get to feeling better before long...it's not good to be sick at any time, but summertime is the worst.
I am going to Vermont next month to clean my Mom's house out...it will be hard, knowing she won't be there.

You were wise to go away for a break, but I'm not surprised that when you slowed down for a minute that nasty bug caught up with you.
Good luck with the auction - I'd love to be there.

I'm sorry to hear you're under so much stress, Sue! No wonder your immune system crashed.

The auction will be very difficult...I was an emotional wreck when we downsized our big 2 story on acres to move to FL. I literally sat upstairs in the guest bedroom & cried as people carried out my "stuff". However, I bought more...newer & nicer, to make me feel better. I wish I WAS closer to snag some of those wonderful sounding antiques!

Feel better, Hon & don't expect too much of yourself right now.

Hugs,
Rett

I'm sorry you are sick but I can't say that I'm surprised since you and your family have been under so much stress for so long. I feel for you all, having just cleaned out my own parent's home and having it on the market. I hope the sale goes well and that it will be one less thing for you all to worry about, though I know that parting with family pieces is never easy! I wish I lived closer, I would love to see the Effingham pieces as one of my good friends is from there, and I know I would love the ferris wheel toy!
