Alicia Keyes, Jennifer Hudson and Liza Minnelli??? What???

Note: Blogger has been unavailable to me (and many others) since yesterday. I have been unable to post comments or add to my own blog posts. If you notice that your comments are down in number, or you aren't seeing a regular post from someone it is probably because they were unable to post.  I still can't post any pictures.

I mentioned when I did a past post that I sometimes get asked to do music reviews of new CD’s. There may be months between opportunities, but recently I have been asked to do 3 (yes, there is another one coming soon).

I was recently sent a copy of the Sex and The City 2: Original Movie Soundtrack. I was excited. I also had no idea what to expect. I saw a few of the Sex and The City television shows, but I’ve never seen the first movie…so, I didn’t know what kind of music to expect. When my CD arrived and I flipped it over to see who the artists were, I was a bit surprised. Alicia Keyes, Erykah Badu, Dido, Jennifer Hudson and Cyndi Lauper…cool! Liza Minnelli? I wasn’t sure about that one. I did what I always do, put it in the CD player and cranked up the volume.
I really liked it from the first beat of the music. Rapture by Alicia Keyes (she also sings Empire State of Mind later on the album) begins the album and I really enjoyed her version as well as Dido’s Everything to Lose. Cee-Lo singing Language of Love is nice and slips easily into Erykah Badu doing Window Seat. She isn’t a favorite of mine, but she does it well.
There are a couple of songs that have that “Bollywood” sound that I really just don’t like at all, hopefully they simply underscore what is happening in the film at the time. As for Ms. Minnelli doing Beyonce’s Single Ladies-Put a Ring on It, it is just as comical as I would expect it to be. It made me laugh.
My favorite song on the album is Jennifer Hudson and Leona Lewis singing Love Is Your Color, a beautiful ballad. I also really enjoyed a flashback in time with Cyndi Lauper singing True Colors. It really is an album of the unexpected. When you have Alicia Keyes singing on an album that also has songs Sunrise, Sunset and Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered it makes for an interesting musical journey. I’ve enjoyed the album…not every song, but most of it. It makes me want to see the movie to see how all these different artists and styles come together.

Some I would like, some maybe not. I have never cared for Liza's voice/style.
Have a great week.

I'm a fan of most of these artist, so it sounds like a great album to me. I will admit that I got quite a shock when I finally had Eryka Badu's Amerykah in my hands....it was not what I had expected at all....so you never know.

Ha...I haven't watched any of the series or any of the movies. But a lot of bloggers have been mentioning the new movie. I like some of the furniture in some of the scenes that have been posted online ;0)

My comments have been down over the past 3-4 days, so thanks for the mention of the problem. I thought I just had bad breath or something. This soundtrack sounds great...If I buy a CD, it is usually a soundtrack so that I get a variety of music. I'll have to check this one out. Come by for a visit when you have a chance.

Oh, how neat! I loved your review, Sue. I never watched "SITC", but the album does sound neat.

I've been having blogger issues, too. I think it's pretty widespread. Hopefully, they will fix things soon.

XOXOXO,

Sheila

I love the soundtrack (full disclosure: I'm obsessed with SATC). I previewed the songs on iTunes before going to see the movie for the first time and got even more excited if that was even possible. :)

Glad you liked most of the songs. They fit in nicely with the film.
