What inspired this blog?

When my youngest got her first apartment 2 years ago, I made her a book of “mom stuff.” It included recipes for simple and inexpensive foods, as well as family favorites. I also added laundry tips, ideas for entertaining on a budget and helpful hints that I hoped would make her transition a little easier. Even so, I have still received frequent phone calls with questions about everything from crushed tomatoes to what outfit to wear to an interview.

I am often told I’m the “mom” of the group, regardless of the average age of the people I’m with. It isn’t unusual for me to get a text message or call from a friend asking about recipe ingredients, or home remedies. My kid’s friends will tell them to “call and ask your mom” when they have questions about everything from finances to travel arrangements.

Make no mistake, I’m not the perfect mother. I’m not an expert at anything! I raised two kids and we all survived. I’m still married to my best friend after almost 35 years, but it hasn’t always been easy. I am no Martha Stewart. I won’t be telling you how to make napkins out of hand towels, or stenciling a holiday tablecloth. I do hope to share some practiced ways to simplify, save money, entertain and prepare some easy meals. I’m just offering a few pointers from someone who has already “been there and done that.”

As my daughter often says, “Mom, what should I do about…?”

I love this. You did a great job. I like that the layout isn't all cluttered up. Kudos to you, madam, for both the concept of this and the execution.

Thanks so much, it is obviously a work in progress.

This is great! The page is very professional looking and the writing is light and often makes me laugh. Though I don't have the mom I can always call for help with anything, it's nice to know there are moms like that out there and to have one of them for a friend. You have come a long way from that person who was too afraid to try her hand at writing because as you said at the time, "I'm not a writer". Well, guess what, Mom, now you are! I'm definitely subscribing!

AF49-Thanks for checking out the early stages of our project. I still have some tweaking to do, but I'm getting there. If you have any suggestions for topics, please let me know.

This is great. I'm a Mom too, but can I ask a question? Please explain blogs and what subscribing means. Thanks

Mom2-Of course you can ask questions, that is the goal here. A blog is a website that is generally updated on a regular basis. For example, I am trying to update mine on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Some blogs are updated daily and some are only updated every few weeks or months. They can cover all sorts of topics from simply a family diary to blogging about a business. In my case, this blog is meant to inform, teach and answer questions in an informal environment. Some people place ads on their blogs and are paid a few cents when people click on them, or get a small percentage of the sale if the ad is for a business or product. Some people blog simply as a hobby or to journal their lives and you won't see ads on their blogs.

Subscribing to a blog is free. If you read several blogs it can take time to go to each one daily to see if the blogger has added something new. When you subscribe to a blog, you first need to have a way to "read" the subscriptions. I use Google Reader which is a very simple sign up (just Google it and follow directions to sign up). Then, after you have signed up, when you see a blog or a news site that you want to keep up with (hopefully mine) all you have to do is open Google Reader and you will see the new posts from all the things you subscribe to. You can then click on them and go straight to the blog or webpage. It makes keeping up much easier.

Anytime you see a subscribe link on a website, generally with the orange icon next to it...simply click on it and add it to your collection.

I hope this answers your questions, if anyone wants to add anyting to this, please do.
