Shopping the Basement for Forgotten Treasures

     Fall is slowly taking over at my house. It still feels like summer, looks like summer and actually is summer...but, I was ready for a change. Besides, my husband was home to carry the boxes up and down the stairs...good enough reason for me to get busy! I remembered an antique wooden bowl that my mother-in-law had given me many years ago. I used it for several years, but when I started using more contemporary accessories in my house, I put it somewhere and my husband found it. See why I've kept him around so long?

     Known as Flemish Art, it was part of a large collection of the primitive wood-burning items that she collected for many years. It was on her kitchen table for many years. I oiled it with the oil I use on my cutting boards and it brought back to a rich color.

I decided it was time to put it back on my table for a little while.

Doesn't that wooden bowl just scream, "fill me with apples"?

 

     Our area orchard has the first apples of the season...they are delicious. The man at the orchard told me to take the apples home and put them in a plastic bag with a tablespoon of water and put them in the frig to make them last longer. Of course they don't last long around here anyway.
