Known as Flemish Art, it was part of a large collection of the primitive wood-burning items that she collected for many years. It was on her kitchen table for many years. I oiled it with the oil I use on my cutting boards and it brought back to a rich color.
I decided it was time to put it back on my table for a little while.
My table did look like this:
Now it looks like this:
Doesn't that wooden bowl just scream, "fill me with apples"?
Our area orchard has the first apples of the season...they are delicious. The man at the orchard told me to take the apples home and put them in a plastic bag with a tablespoon of water and put them in the frig to make them last longer. Of course they don't last long around here anyway.
I am joining Marty @ A Stroll Thru Life for Table Top Tuesday
Please take some time to visit our wonderful hostesses!
Sue,
ReplyDeleteI just love your wooden bowl! It makes a wonderful fall addition to your tabletop. Your apples almost look to perfect to be real!
I will have to start thinking about adding some Autumn decor to my home...you are inspiring me!
Hi Sue, your Fall touches are looking just wonderful. The bowl is lovely!!

The bowl is fabulous and it should definitely be out on the table. Love that mask container too. Beautiful vignettes. Thanks so much for linking to TTT. Hugs, Marty
ReplyDeleteSue,
ReplyDeleteI forgot to tell you on my first comment, but we decided on Latte for our new pup!

I should dig out our old wooden bowl...where ever it is. Yours is beautiful.
ReplyDeleteIt's apple picking time at Eckert's. I need to plan a little day trip.
Oh, I love it. The bowl is perfect for fall. I can't wait to go to our local apple orchards! Our kids loved it and we had such a fun time. Yeah for fall!

Someone's hands spent hours creating that lovely thing. Imagine how pleased they'd be to know that, so many years later, it's still treasured, & being shared with people from all parts of the world.
ReplyDeleteThat wooden bowl is fabulous, you have inspired me to go and fill a wooden bow, though not so beutiful with apples myself :)
ReplyDeleteHappy that you found this beautiful wooden bowl...it's just perfect for your apples!
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Linda

What a great place to shop and the price is right too! That is a lovely bowl, makes me want to get the wood burner out.

Sue-I have been dying to have an antique wooden bowl. The ones I have seen are very expensive so I don't have one yet! I'm glad you got that out of the basement. It's perfect with apples for fall decorating!
ReplyDeleteHello fellow beach bum and cultured pearl!!! Good to know that there are others like me out there! Am not ready for Fall at all..., so I have to look at that later, hihi!
ReplyDeleteYour fall things are so pretty,Sue, love the wooden tray and the smiling pumpkin vase, so cute!....Christine
ReplyDeleteGreat treasures. Beautiful pictures!
ReplyDeleteThat bowl can hold its own without anything in it! It's absolutely magnificent. Thanks for stopping by my post and for sharing your charming tabletop design. Looks like you're all ready for autumn! Cherry Kay
ReplyDeleteSue, I love that wooden bowl and isn't it great to come across a forgotten piece. Love your new fall arrangement and can't wait to start working on some at my house. On our way home now and I am catching up on some blog reading.
ReplyDeleteThat is a beautiful bowl and you have done it proud.
ReplyDeleteThat is interesting about the apples. We pick apples nearby, you can hear the waves from the ocean as you pick. It has become soooo expensive! Last year it was 29.00 a bag, I am afraid to see what it this year!
I walked down to the beach today, I can't get myself fallish yet!
You are right, the bowl is perfect for apples. Your vignette is pretty, I love all the deep colors. And thanks for the tips on the apples...one day my daughter loves them, the next day she doesn't!
ReplyDeleteHappy TT Tuesday! :-)
xoxo

What a wonderful wooden bowl- what I would give to own one! It looks so autumn-like filled with your apples, but it would even look beautiful on its own, too.

I have friends in your situation...the kids show no interest in assuming the job of caretaker...good steward of the treasures with which God has blessed our family. I have friends who say that they are going to leave the things to me. I tell them that I'll take them, but if at any point, the children want to use them, I'll return them to the family. Maybe you have a good friend who would be a caregiver for your things like that. Cherry Kay
ReplyDeleteO, you are so smart to start getting all this done. I love that bowl...
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping over..and the sweet words you left for me. You always say just the right thing to make my heart swell ! :)
Hi Sue!
ReplyDeleteWow... what a transformation!
love the autumn look of it all!
Sue, another thing I'm really liking on your table are the candle sticks... Can you tell me where you got them? My dining table where we're eating now with Dad doesn't have any overhead lighting. I have a Yankee candle on a silver little pedestal thingy but it's not nearly enough.
Hope your week is going well ~
Enjoy the archeological digging in the basement ;o)

We brought home a bunch of apples from our co-op today too, and when we were doing the pickup the girls had tons of fun running around the orchard. I hate that fall is here, but I am in the mood to decorate.
ReplyDeleteAs soon as I saw that bowl, I thought it needed some apples in it. it looks perfect on your table!
ReplyDeleteThat bowl looks like such a quality piece--and I bet those apples are delicious.
