My daughter's room in our house is gradually becoming my own little sanctuary. I have my desk in there, and I finally decided to change her bedding on her daybed to a more "adult" look. The wall color is what she picked when me moved in 7 years ago and is on the list for repainting. It will probably end up some form of taupe like the rest of the house, but it won't happen until winter.
My desk is a thrifted find from a hotel sale. I'm on the lookout for something different that I can paint white. The chair belonged to my grandparents and I'm waiting until I find a "new" desk to decide what I will do with it.
I had some cheapy WalMart plastic magazine holders that I thought I would try to makeover for my desk. I'm new to Mod Podge and don't look too closely, this didn't work out very well. I used a cardstock that I had in colors that worked for the room. I'm happy with the look, but I must say that the holes in the plastic holders not only made for a glue mess...they also made the paper bubble up. Let's just say they look fine for the room if you don't look at them carefully, but I won't be making any for gifts anytime soon. Once again I have to admit that I'm much better with food and flowers than I am with glue, paint or scissors!
I always want my kids to feel as if they have a room at my house, so it is a fine line between taking over the room and also still leaving it in a way that feels like her space when she is home (which is only once a year). It is certainly a work in progress. As long as Dolly (who has obviously been well loved) is sitting in a place of honor...it will always feel like home to my "baby"!
I am joining Susan @ Between Naps on the Porch for Met Monday!
You will love the projects you will see if you go visit her!
Your picture goes wonderfully with the new pillows and throw, and I WOULD paint the daybed white... Get one of those rugs that are like a road map to keep the little guy on the floor when he's playing with his cars... I had 3sons(all grown up now), but in their day I used to use braided rugs and they used those as their road maps... You could even roll it up when he's not there... Hope you don't mind my suggestion...Hugs, Donna
ReplyDeleteThe image looks lovely with everything and the memories make it even better!
ReplyDeleteVery nice updates Sue!
ReplyDeleteI really love that seashell quilt and how nicely the pic goes with it.
I know about keeping a room for our kids, but slowly I am changing too.
Hugs,
Cindy
Like someone suggested, one of those rugs with the roads, buildings and trees, etc. printed on it would be perfect for him to play cars and trucks on. Put under the bed when not in use. Your picture looks good in there. Nice job on the magazine holders.
ReplyDeleteLove the quilt amd colors of the room, Sue. The pictures really matches the beddings and blends so well....Christine
ReplyDeleteEverything really looks great Sue! You have been very busy...
ReplyDeleteSue, that picture is perfect over the daybed. I love the fact that you have kept those special things in there. That well loved doll is precious.
ReplyDeleteYou are one busy lady! Love the coverlet.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by!
Sue,
ReplyDeleteI love the things you have gathered for this room! I can see the bed white too, but agree that you might want to hold off for a little bit while longer! I know that if I was your daughter, I'd enjoy coming home to this room!

You have created such lovely rooms ... I actually like the color schemes as they are.
ReplyDeleteHave a beautiful summer's eve ~

I LOVE the new art in your bedroom - nice job :) And, the magazine racks look lovely.
ReplyDeleteWell, it looks as though we're all in agreement that the picture looks great with the seashell coverlet and the one you hung above your bed is perfect.
ReplyDeleteDolly just made me go "awwww" for awwwwdorable!
Love that you refuse to tuck the print away. Using what you love always works... designers may not agree, but our hearts know it's true.
ReplyDeleteYou are very creative! I love your print/picture, it's so inviting. I think you should paint the bed frame. Any nicks or scratches can easily be touched up. First we wait for kids to grow up then grandkids. It seems all we do is wait and no one wants them to grow up too fast.
