For A Special Mother

     When thinking about how to set the table for Mother's Day this year, it was easy for my daughter and I to decide what dishes we were going to use. The china belonged to my mother-in-law who died last month. My sister-in-law didn't want the china and I just couldn't leave it at the house for the large auction we will be having in July. I brought it home thinking maybe my daughter would want it. She decided she wants a different every day pattern that also belonged to my mother-in-law, so maybe at some point my son will have someone special in his life who will like this pattern. I have my own china, my mother's and my grandmother's china...but, I still didn't feel right leaving this behind.

     This isn't china my mother-in-law got when she was married. She bought it later on. It is Noritake Arlington. At first I wasn't crazy about it, but it has sort of grown on me. I do love the soft gray next to the white.

     The stainless was also my in-law's. We will be taking the set to my daughter our next trip down. It is Oneida Cherbourg which was made in the early '80's. 

     Silver chargers, a hand embroidered tablecloth of my mother's and soft pink wine glasses completed the table.

     Vintage crystal candlesticks and a strand of grape lights surround the beautiful floral arrangement that was a wonderful Mother's Day surprise.

Of course we had to light all those candles!

 

     Dinner wasn't all that elegant, but it was good. My daughter and I had grilled salmon and my son and husband had burgers.

Yes, those are roasted radishes.

I've been seeing them in magazines and they were quite good.

 A little olive oil, salt and pepper...that is it!
