Bits and Pieces

It is Thursday, which generally means a Tablescape on my blog. With my daughter here, we had a plan for how we were going to set the table. We are still going to do that and call it a Mother's Day Table...my guess is that you will see it next week. You see things got a little busy around our house. Tuesday a couple of little guys showed up to play with their aunt. They seem to think of her as a celebrity, because after all she does work with Mickey Mouse!

Notice the T-shirts from her recent trip to NYC.
Needless to say there were a few Disney surprises in her suitcase!

We served the little guys a very "nutritious" dinner of mac and cheese, hotdogs and applesauce. They aren't great eaters. Their mom gives them lots of Happy Meals and therefore they would really like to live on Happy Meals only.

Tuesday night we had a sleepover. My son, his sons and my daughter were all here overnight. That has never happened before. My grands live with their mom about an hour and half from here, my son lives here in town and my daughter lives in Florida. I was a very happy mom/grandma to have all my chicks in the nest at once. That doesn't even happen on holidays for us now. We got up yesterday morning and took the boys back to their mom, drove to the nursing home and picked up my father-in-law and went to the cemetery for my mother-in-law's graveside service. It just took a few minutes, was just the family and the sun was shining. I hate to say that my father-in-law has gone downhill so much in the past 10 days that I think we will be going through this again...very soon. Two weeks ago he could walk with a walker and was slightly confused. Yesterday he couldn't stand, had to be lifted by my son into our car and barely spoke. It is hard to watch this happening so quickly.

So, for our tablescape this week we are using what really was on the "table" this morning. My daughter loves my friends and wanted to see them while she was here. We had a simple coffee and conversation this morning. Scones, fruit, coffee and juice...nothing fancy, just fun. I didn't set the table, just put things on the counter and everyone helped themselves.

Tomorrow we are headed to St. Louis to the Botanical Gardern. Hopefully, I will have some beautiful pictures for next week. I'm trying to jump in and read some of your blogs but I know I'm behind. Don't let me miss anything I need to see! Right now I'm just enjoying the company of my kiddo and loving every minute!

I am joining Susan @ Between Naps on The Porch
for Tablescape Thursday. Please go say hello
to Susan and see the gorgeous tablescapes!

Oh Sue Sweetie...
I am so sorry to hear about the new problems with your FIL. Take it one day at a time. Enjoy him while he is here today. I will continue to keep him in my prayers sweet friend, your DH as well. I know how hard this has to be on him.

I am thrilled to hear that you had so much company and a wonderful time was had by all. I love the scones and fresh fruit you served. It looks so delightful. I wish I could have been there to join you. One day perhaps?

Have a wonderful time at the gardens sweetie. I so look forward to the beautiful photos. I am sending up prayers and blessings as I close. Many hugs and much love, Sherry

I'm so glad you have your babies home. I'll be going to New Orleans soon to celebrate my daughter's 21st birthday!

Is there anything better than having all your chickens around! I'm glad all the pieces fell into place for everyone to be together. No doubt you took advantage of the time to spoil the little boys rotten.
With aging parents, every day is a new one and the changes can be startling forcing us to make the best of what is.

It is good to have quality family time. Sometimes it happens only when there is a major event such as a wedding or funeral, and you have to make the most of it. We had a similar situation just last week.

It is so nice you had all of your kids and gkids to spend some time! They are adorable!
Mine aren't great eaters either. Someday they will appreciate Nana's cooking! :)

Hi Sue!
Oh I know how you feel about having everyone at home... all together... nothing like it in the world! I always tell my kids... "Whenever we're all together ~ it's a holiday!"
I love the first photo, the way your daughter and one of the boys is looking right at the lens! Very cute!
So very sorry to hear of your father-in-law. I will be thinking of you*

Enjoy your time together and your trip to the gardens.
~blessings always~

THanks for stopping by my blog yesterday!

Sue this post made me smile! I love it all! Sweet kiddo's small and all grown up, around you...lovely!

As I write this, Friday, you are either at MoBot or have been. What an absolutely gorgeous day it is in Saint Louis! All the better for the gardens.

Oh, Suz...these are my favorite kind of tablescapes, anyway..everything out, everyone laughing and filling their plates, hurrying to find a good seat..this is the way we do it when all 17 of us get together. Waaay more fun than worrying about setting the table.
I know you loved having them all there.
I am blessed that all mine will be with me for Mother's Day..having a cookout at son's house.
I'll be sure to take my camera...:))))

How wonderful that you had a family sleepover! Truth be told, this is my favorite kind of tablescape — easy, casual and shared with family and friends!

Sorry to hear you FIL is not doing well, but this often happens when one spouse passes. Give your hubby my best, I know this must be so hard on him.

Have a wonderful Mother's Day with your loved ones!

Hugs

As always, I enjoyed you post. Your simple coffee looks perfect.

It's so difficult to watch our parents age. I'm reminding myself that for most of them, they've had a good run and, when the time is right, they will move on to a much better place.

Take care and have a GREAT Mother's Day.

I love your "real" tablescape! My daughter in law comments on all of mine so I decided I had to set two big tables for Sunday dinner as we have 16 most Sundays and we eat buffet style. It was fun, but still everyone wanted to crowd into the kitchen to be together. I guess real isn't for every week at our house.
