Last year about this time, I did a post about treating yourself to fresh flowers in the winter. It is something that I truly believe is worth giving Walmart $5 for. This winter in particular, with all this snow and cold temps, it seems more necessary than usual. On Sunday, I picked up these beautiful tulips and I decided they would add just a hint a color to my black and white "snow" table.
I started this table with a black table runner trimmed on the ends in gold. Black round placemats under each place setting was the first "layer".
Black napkins with gold snowflake napkin rings keep up with the theme. My centerpiece is a wonderful black wire bowl that was a birthday gift from a good friend. I filled it with snowballs, perfect for this weather!
A few snow-sparkled fronds serve as the base for the bowl.
My white Wedgewood plates are topped with small black Walmart salad plates. The focal point of the setting is the Crate and Barrel snowflake appetizer plate. Charcoal gray flatware and black stemmed wine glasses finish the setting.
Snowflake votive candles add a little glow.
Lenox Crystal candlesticks balance
the tulips on the other end of the table.
As night falls, the table takes on a
soft, warm glow.

Simply beautiful! I love the pink tulips against the black and white. I'm thinking this weekend I need to pick me up some flowers. :)
What a pretty table setting! I really like the pink tulips with the black and white.
Stay warm.
I am always a fan of black and white. What are the snowballs made of -- did you buy them? I need some fresh flowers now! Joni
Sue, what a dramatic table! I love the black and white theme, and I love those pretty pink tulips, too.
Love all your layers of china and the neat snowballs you made. Such fun! Neat tablescape...
XO,
Sheila :-)
P.S. I'm eyeballing your bow making tutorial on your sidebar. I am just hopelessly inept when it comes to that! I wish you were here to teach me in person!!!
The black and white is elegant and classic. The pop of pink from the tulips is a fun, yet still elegant touch. I adore all of those snowflake details. Do pretty.
Sue-You have outdone yourself! This is just beautiful and I love the snowball centerpiece. I consider fresh flowers a necessary luxury! My son gave me a gift certificate for one fresh bouquet a month from a local florist. It is one of my favorite Christmas gifts!
What an elegant and inviting table Sue-enjoy:@)
Love your pictures. It all is elegant love the snowballsand snow flakes
What a contrast between those beautiful flowers and the snowballs. Very pretty table.
Love the tulips the most!!!
Just gorgeous Sue!
I love the beautiful black and white with the flowers, so dramatic and so perfect for winter too!
Hugs,
Cindy
SO BEAUTIFULLLLL!
(And I'm taking your mom advice and taking down the link to my Facebook Page. I think you made a good point. This job is good money. Now is not the time to put it in jeopardy!)
Hi Sue
I remember your post last year.. and totally agree.. You know we used to be able to buy a small bunch for about that same price.. but in the last 5 years or so prices have gone through the roof... be more like $15 now..
I love the colour of you tulips today.. very pretty and always think pink looks so good with B&W..
Thanks for checking on me.. The flooding is north of here.. in Queensland.. most of that state and some of my own state also... it is so sad and still a little bit beyond my comprehension ... the scale of the disaster.. it will take years to get on top of this.. for individuals and industry and I'm sure it will affect our economy also as Queensland is the hub of the food growing industry here..
Although having said all of that.. it is the personal loss.. lives and homes and the displacement of people that is the greatest tragedy..
thanks for thinking of me... ciao xxx Julie
Sue, what a pretty table with those cute snow balls and love the pink tulips. Makes me long for spring.
Very lovely, Sue! And, I couldn't agree more about the need for fresh flowers...this winter has been brutal already.
Oh Sue Sweetie...
What a beautiful share. I SO love this post. Your table is just exquisite and I really love the snowballs. How elegant they look piled right there for ambiance of a Winter Wonderland. Just gorgeous.
Your plates are so pretty. I love them. That black is really striking on your table setting. Do those tulips say "LOVE" or what?
You have such a wonderful talent sweet one. Thank you for taking me into the land of SNOW tonight. Just beautiful.
Many hugs and SO much love, Sherry
I like the pop of color the tulips give to your black and white tablescape. pretty!
Just beautiful...very sophisticated! Thank you for sharing your charming design. Cherry Kay
*sigh*
That was so pretty! We're having a dinner party tonight and fresh flowers are on my list.
Beautiful tablescape! I love everything and the appetizer plates are perfect. I might buy a few of those but then I'd need to buy other dishes to go with them.
What a gorgeous shade of pink... we can't grow tulips down here, but I love to pick up a few every year. Have been under the weather & closed up in the house, so I'm missing that tradition... but, hopefully, missing the worst of our "winter" as well.
Stay warm. Be peaceful.
Julia~
Beautiful as always.
When I hear other bloggers talk about what a harsh winter it's been, I'm always slightly surprised; we've barely had any snow here at all.
It's been enormously frustrating to see such scant precipitation in my state while almost every other part of the country is getting buried. Even people to my south have gotten more than me!
Absolutely beautiful, Sue. Your photos brightened my gloomy day.
