Progresso Soup Review and Giveaway!

Several weeks ago I received my first opportunity from MyBlogSpark to review a product. They provided me with a package that included two cans of Progresso Reduced Sodium soup, a Progresso soup mug, and a fitness ball and DVD.

I am not new to Progresso Soup. We love soup at our house and while I love homemade soups, sometimes it is so easy to just pop open a can for a quick lunch. I started buying Progresso Soups when I did Weight Watchers for a few months many years ago. The taste was good, it was easy to prepare and you could eat an entire can for very few points! I was new to Reduced Sodium Progresso soups. In reading the information provided to me, I found out that there are more than 100 million adults suffering from high cholesterol and that eating Progresso® Reduced Sodium soups may help lower cholesterol when eaten with other heart healthy, soluble fiber containing foods.

The "May Help Lower Cholesterol" banner and the Heart Healthy logo can be found on certain varieties of Progresso Reduced Sodium soups, making it easy to find them on your grocer's shelf. Five Progresso Reduced Sodium favorites - Italian Style Wedding, Minestrone, Garden Vegetable, Beef and Vegetable, and Chicken Gumbo - contain hearty vegetables and legumes to provide 1g of heart healthy soluble fiber in every bowl.

Of course the important question is, how does it taste? I was pleased to see when I opened the can of Chicken Gumbo, that it was loaded with rice, veggies, beans and chicken. I like substance in my soups. It was nicely seasoned, in fact it had a bit of a "bite" to it. Did I miss the salt? I will admit that I'm used to "regular" canned soup which is loaded with sodium, so I could tell immediately that these soups had less salt in them. It was something I got used to after the first couple of bites. What I found was that Progresso has been able to make a healthy line of soups without sacrificing the quality I am used to with their products. If you would like to learn more about Progresso Reduced Sodium Soups (or their other products) you can visit their webpage or join them on Facebook.

MyBlogSpark and Progresso have generously offered to send a prize package to one of my readers. You will receive the same package I got to review; a large Progresso mug, two cans of soup and an exercise ball and video. This is open to my U.S. readers only.

     Let's keep this simple.

     1. Leave a comment on this post sharing anything you might do to help lower your cholesterol using your food choices. I would love it if you decided to follow my blog, but you don't have to be a follower to be entered.

You have through Tuesday, Nov. 30th to enter

Hi Sue!

Thanks for offering this great giveaway. Instead of frying foods, I bake them. Recently, I started making French Fries and Sweet Potato Fries myself instead of buying them in the freezer section.

Have a great week! La

Okay, I know you're not going to believe this, BUT I swear I'm sitting here right now eating the reduced sodium chicken gumbo! I love Progresso soups and the gumbo is one of my favorites. My wish is that they will eventually have a reduced sodium in more of their flavors. Better yet, low-sodium or salt free versions!

When I was growing up and learning to cook, I NEVER used salt. When daddy saw that I had cooked he always ran for the salt shaker, lol.

Prepared foods are generally really high in sodium and I appreciate every effort food companies are making to change that. For now, I avoid them whenever possible. Hardly anything out of a box is in my cupboards, but I do eat canned soups, beans and tomatoes. To cut down on my sodium intake of these products, I heat half a can of soup over rice or with leftover veggies added in. I don't add salt when I cook with canned tomatoes or beans. Come to my house and bring your salt shaker, lol. I do, however, use slat when I make grits. Just can't have grits without salt!

Progresso is the first soup I head to in the grocery store...I love the selection and always but the Italian Wedding Soup as it is low in carbs. I also have high BP so cutting the salt is something I always have to do.

Great review, Sue!

Jane

Good Morning Sue Sweetie...
Oh my gosh, you had me at giveaway. I love it. And of course who doesn't love soups this time of year.

Being an insulin diabetic, I have to watch everything, and especially labels. To help lower my cholesterol in food choices, that's easy, I am doing it right now. I stopped eating my vegetables from a can, I only eat fresh now (no sodium there) and this allows me to have the luxury of soups and other canned luxuries (watching the sodium of course). I became very label conscious this past year, and I try to share that with my kids, and I even have the grands reading labels now. I also altered the salt in the shaker to Salt Substitute. DH just salts away, and he is none the wiser, anyway not yet. *wink*

Thank you sweetie for the wonderful opportunity to try the low sodium soups. With the weather changing here in the desert, I am actually starting to want a cup of soup now and then.

Hope you are having a wonderful Sunday sweetie.

Many hugs and SO much love, Sherry

Wonderful review.. and giveaway!
I too enjoy soups, especially my homemade ones in the crockpot..
but the convenience of canned soups cannot be beat! Progresso has always been a first choice with me.
I do not cook with salt, but do use it sparingly on my portions. seeing the food companies finally addressing this health issue is wonderful!
am a follower..
warm sandy hugs..

Bake everything! No more fried chips, or meats, any goodies along that line, even when eating out. My uncle recently had a heart scare and we are all learning.

This is a great give away In our family we went from whole milk to 2% milk and now use 1% milk and that is with 3 teen age boys in the house. Good food habits really do need to start at a young age

Well, count me in, please?!! We're trying desperately to eliminate salt & excess fats from both our diets. High BP's plus DH's ♥ issues make it imperative.
I put my Baby Daddy Deep fryer away...no fried green tomatoes this year! No fried ANYTHING anymore. No salting at the table or stove, either. I put the salt shakers up in a HIGH cupboard.

First time visitor and new follower. Thanks for the bow tutorial! Love soups - just made a delicious chicken posole soup today. I like Progresso soups, but I must say I like Campbell's Healthy Request even more.

I buy a lot of Progresso soups for a quick lunch. I really, really need to work on my sodium. For some reason, though, I don't have any trouble with cholesterol...knock on wood. What a fun giveaway! Thanks for the chance!

Hello,
I am trying to get healthy along with my husband. It's actually quite fun to do together. We are eating a healthier breakfast, a slimfast drink for lunch, and a normal dinner. Plus we are getting up early to exercise! Wow!

Wish me luck,

Recently tried the progresso lower sodium chicken gumbo soup. It tasted delicious and I went back to the store for more and ate it again the next day. It reminds me of chile and it has so much flavor. It is now my favorite.
