If we drive a little over an hour from our home,
we can enter a different world. A world where it
looks like this when you are driving down the road.
A place where lunch is all homemade, right down
to the warm bread and apple butter...for only $5.50.
Our plan for the day was to simply enjoy being outside on a wonderful, warm fall day. We stopped at an area pumpkin patch, drove past an old rock sculpture park and peeked in to see if it looked like it did when we were kids. We stopped for fresh made cheeses, Amish noodles, a few unique squash and a fresh apple cider slushie. This is the one time of year that I don't mind living in Illinois. Just sit back and go along for the ride.
Please visit our lovely hostesses and say hello!

Beautiful photos!
We're about an hour away from Lancaster, PA. We love the atmosphere and of course, the food! It's been a few years since we've visited. I'll have to plan a trip soon.
Sue, that looks like the perfect day. I have never seen pumpkins displayed on shelves like that. Thank you for your sweet comments.
Oh Sue Sweetie...
What a beautiful time you had, and just a perfect outing. I love, love, love each of the photos. Your dinner looked yummy for sure. Nothing like a plate of home made dinner.
Love the pumpkins on the shelves going up. Gosh it looks awfully high up there. The pumpkins, squash and the garden photos are outstanding. I so love it when you share. It was so much fun on this trip this morning. Have a gorgeous Wednesday sweetie.

I envy you, I've always wanted to see Amish country for myself. What lovely and interesting images, especially the pumpkin "trees". Very fun and clever.

Sue,
That is a really neat pumpkin patch. I love the "pumpkin trees." You got the greatest shots. I went to the pumpkin patch with my kindergartener and we picked a pumpkin each. Well I was really wanting the heirloom blue ones and the flater orange ones, but on a schoolbus I could only carry mine and his.LOL I had to leave without the fancy pumpkins. We had fun though.

I love your Outdoor Wednesday photos. Beautiful countryside.
Gorgeous photos! Sounds like a lovely day :)
When I first saw the picture of the buggy I thought, "I can't believe she was in my neck of the woods and didn't see me". I then figured out that you have Amish not far from your home. If you are every close to me, we must get together you know!!!!!
Remember we could have been seperated by birth!
Looks like you had so much fun.
xo Yvonne
Thanks for all the comments. I think it would be fun to visit PA Amish country and see how it differs from our Illinois Amish communities. From the sounds of the comments, I would say that they are all great cooks!
What a beautiful post, Sue! It brought back some good memories. I used to lve in Philadelphia when I first migrated to US and ther was an Amish community nearby that we used to visit. John , AJ and I planned to go to the Philippines in Jan, for my HS reunion but my uncle passed away about 2 weeks ago. He was the only surviving sibling of my dad and I wanted to see him but I am too late. So, I decided to cancel the trip. Someday, I will go home and visit again...Christine
What a fun day this would be girl...and look at the chicken and noodles YUM!! now I'm hungry for sure...I pray all is well in your world my Dear friend...Hugs and smiles Gl♥ria
We always drive through Amish Country on our trips north and south, but we have never stopped. I think it has a lot to do with the fact that we always leave home super early, think 3 a.m. and then are getting back home super late, about 3 a.m. too.
I am thinking of doing a short road trip with my bff when she comes up from Texas next month. There is so much I want her to see and share with her, but not enough time, she is only here for a week (first time in the North, lol). I keep thinking a drive south or a drive west, towards Galena.
Hi there, I did not join in with Outdoor Wednesday this week but I certainly enjoyed your outing to Amish country.
Thankyou for your comments on my latest post on News From Italy.
Oh this is a GREAT POST! I love each picture. I was back in Michigan last year at this time and really enjoyed seeing the amish, and all the wonderful produce and such. But I'm thinking I missed out! I never ate lunch where they served their food! DANG!
Have a great day! Karen
Amish country is so beautiful! Lovely pics and that fence...is that stone? so pretty! xo
makes me wish we were at the pumpkin patch. It'll still so hot and uncorfortable though and the weekends are so busy. we'll get there though.
Looks like a gorgeous fall day! Great to know a whole other world is only a short drive away.
