Today is my baby girl's 26th birthday! The above picture (of a picture) was the day we brought her home from the hospital. If you can tell, her dress is layer upon layer of pink ruffles. She was dressed like that for several years. I guess I understand why she hates pink now! I did the math and realized that my mom is the same age in this picture that I am now. Time really does fly. It took me 9 years to get pregnant, so this little princess was quite the surprise and there isn't a day that goes by that I don't realize how lucky I am to have her in my life. We tease her that she was born an adult. I can honestly say that we have never had a fight or even a serious disagreement. She was my easy child and she still is. Everyone should get at least one of those! She hasn't been home for her birthday in several years. So, in her honor, I'm setting a pretty table that we might use if she were here. Instead, she's going out with friends to dinner at a Walt Disney World resort. I'd pick that too!
I brought up our extra table to today. It is a bit larger than my glass table in our dining area. It seats 6, but I set it for our family of 4. I was anxious to use the silver chargers that I found on our road trip on the Great River Road. I used our wedding china, Lenox Moonspun, I still love it. They quit making it in 1995. I see that replacements.com has the dinner plates priced over $40 each. I didn't realize I was making an investment when we selected this pattern.
My wedding crystal is Fostoria Buttercup. It was actually discontinued in 1959, but it was still available through our jewelry store when I got married in 1974. My mother and grandmother had the same pattern and a few of the pieces came from their collections. Now, my sister has my mother's crystal. This pattern obviously is very special in our family. Between us, my sister and I have many pieces and accessory pieces. We could host quite a party.
My sterling flatware was my grandmother's.
It is Alvin Sterling, French Scroll.
I used a collection of mismatched vintage crystal candlesticks on the table. I love to do this to get different heights. Each is actually half of a pair, but I only used one of each with creamy white candles. The tablecloth I've had for many years. I like that it has both silver and gold threads running through it. See that hint of bling?
How do I set a table fit for my princess? An antique vase filled with white alstroemeria and vintage rhinestone and pearl jewelry that once belonged to her grandmother and great-grandmother.
This is an example of how you can think "outside the box" and use almost anything on a table. My cut glass rose bowl is filled with vintage pearls and a very old Eisenberg brooch.
A vintage necklace is wrapped around a candlestick. I've had many of these pieces of my grandmother's for years. I actually wear them on those rare occasions where I'm really dressed up. Nothing like a little flash to dress up the little black dress!
A simple cut glass water pitcher and the table is done.
I picked a few peach roses from my yard to place
on the vintage napkins to add a hint of color to the table.
Of course any table is prettier by candlelight.
Happy Birthday Baby!
If only I could be with you, I'd be so much happier!
I am linking today with Susan @ Between Naps on the Porch

Isn't it hard to not have your babies with you for special occasions. I have the same problem.
I love your blog background with the candycorn. I've been looking for a new template but so far, have found nothing that strikes a chord with me.
Sue, How beautiful! Happy Birthday to your daughter. This is such a special and gorgeous table truly fit for a princess! Love the jewelry on it too. That is a perfect touch.

Oh Sue Sweetie...
What an EXQUISITE table setting. I love every last little detail, from the history of the plates and fosteria to the beautiful pieces of jewelry accents. Your Baby Girl will love it when she sees it. (She may be at Disney World but I am sure she will read your blog.)
Everything is just beautiful. My favorite photo is the candlelit one. So gorgeous and fitting for a Princess of 26 years of age. My baby girl turned 32 in April and it just about smacked me in the face. Where does the time go?
Have a gorgeous day sweetie, and thank you SO much for sharing this beautiful table with me this morning. I would so love to dine at this setting.
Many hugs and much love, Sherry
Hi Sue, This is a beautiful table and I'm sure your daughter will love the pictures. I am planning to do a birthday table for next week because my baby girl will be 22 on Thursday. I won't be with her, either, because she is away at college. The years go by but I still remember every minute of the day she was born and the awe I felt holding her! And I love your grandmother's sterling! Beautiful table. Linda

Out of all the tablescapes I've seen on your blog, and though I love every single one, this is my favorite! Gorgeous, stunning and definitely befitting a princess, even one who is not able to be there. Still a special tribute.
I wish her a Happy Birthday and you a Happy Giving Birth Day. My son started calling me on his birthday and saying that almost twenty years ago. I love it and it always takes me back in time. After all, it is a special day for mother's too!
Thanks for your sweet words on my upcoming move. I wish you were here too, I could certainly use the help. I'm overwhelmed, but confident I'm making a good decision. I've been goggling the area and it looks as though I'll have lots of good stuff to blog about again!
Hugs across the miles on your special family day.
So beautiful and so eleagant!..Christine
What a special table, and the chargers are stunning-enjoy!
Sue, what an elegant table setting. Happy birthday to your daughter. Our birthdays are very close. Mine is tomorrow.
What a lovely setting. I love the picture of your mother and Kels.
This is the most beautiful gathering of china, jewels, and flowers I think I've ever seen! What a fabulous idea to think outside the box! And to experience it all by candlelight was over-the-top GORGEOUS! I love those charger plates! They are fit for a White House dinner :)) I feel badly you aren't going to be able to share this lovely table setting with your sweet daughter. When she sees these photos she'll understand what a special time she missed.
Hugs of Southern Sunshine, Terri
This is truly beautiful -- not just the table itself (which is spectacular), but the sentiments and the memories you've described. Seeing the jewelry reminded me of things my mother used to wear and brought tears to my eyes. Wonderful photography, and the new chargers are fantastic!
OK, I can't help but shed a tear on that one!! Very sweet post, and those chargers are to die for!!
Hi Sue,

Hi Sue,
Your table is just stunning. those chargers are to die for!! Everything looks so elegant, and love the roses on the napkins, nice touch. Loved everything it was all very pretty, and a delight to the eyes.
So sorry you couldn't be with your daughter on her birthday, bummer!! Maybe next year, I hope. Neat that our daughters are the same age.
Thanks for coming by and for your sweet comments hon. Have a good weekend,
Blessings, Nellie
My precious daughter's birthday was September 3. She celebrated the evening with a party with her friends. We'll celebrate another day in the next week or so. I've always said that any woman worth her salt can make her birthday celebration last at least a month! Your tablescape is lovely. I am so on the same page with you when it comes to the china, crystal, silver that we chose many years ago as young brides are now significant investment items. Who knew? Thank you for sharing your charming and beautiful design. Cherry Kay
Bringing out the good stuff for your special daughter. I know just how much she is loved.
Happy birthday to her!
What a beautiful table setting in honour of your daughters Birthday. Our youngest was also 26 earlier this year :)
This is a lovely table, Sue...I love every single thing about it. I did a table last year and used my mother's jewelry, too. I need to re-post that one.

LOVE your Moonspun china! I think we've had this discussion before, but as another 70s' bride, I love seeing people still using their wedding china. Your table looks so elegant with the silver and crystal!
Happy birthday to your baby girl! I have a 26 year old daughter too. Both our children live far away but we always celebrate their birthdays, whether they are here or not. This is such a lovely table. Each detail is so lovingly chosen.
