Cock-a-doodle-doo! Tablescape Thursday and A Rooster Party!

     When I read that Barb @ Bella Vista was going to be having a Rooster Party, my first thought was that I didn't have any roosters. On second thought, I did have a set of salad plates that my husband had picked up in a thrift shop in Florida and a couple of vintage pieces from my grandmother...that's enough, count me in!

     I have to let you in on a little secret. I don't really like roosters much. I love seeing them all over Blogland. They look so cute in your homes, but I never really wanted them in mine. Maybe it was growing up in that kitchen my mother had back in the 60's...chickens and roosters everywhere, she even had a bright red stove! Imagine my surprise as I pulled this tablescape together and then, fell in love with it. I get it now, rooster colors are happy colors. My dining room table is making me smile today.

     I started with a red tablecloth and added black round (Kohl's) placemats for the look of chargers. Red dinner plates (Crate and Barrel) topped with my thrifted Williams-Somona rooster salad plates complete the look. I have to admit, these are pretty handsome roosters. The red napkins are tied with a bit of rafia for the chicken coop look!

     To go along with the black in the placemats, I added garage sale wine glasses with a black stem. My husband found these too, while I was in Florida. He paid $2 for 6 and I love them! The flatware you have seen before, a HomeGoods purchase in a charcoal color.

     For the center of the table, I used a tin rooster bucket that I found this week at a local thrift shop for $2. I filled it with corn tassels, Black-Eyed Susans and small veriegated red Carnations. The copper rooster watering can is from Cracker Barrel and I added a colorful wine stopper that a good friend gave me for added color.

     Another garage sale find of my husband's are the crystal candlesticks. They were new and still in the box. I thought that maybe the crystal was too formal for this table, but because I was using my grandmother's vintage crystal roosters...I liked the look. I'm not really sure what her roosters were originally for, maybe just to sit and look pretty. Today, they are votive candle holders. 

     To add just a bit more color to my table, I decorated cupcakes in "rooster colors"! The white stand I found new for $5 at a garage sale a few months ago.

     As you can tell, this is very much a thrifted table. It also has many different elements that one might not always use together, but as I've told you before...you really need to think outside the box and add some whimsey to your table settings. There really are no rules unless you are hosting something very formal (like the President or the Queen). You should look around your house and have fun with it!
