I’ve been going through some of my pictures from my weeks in Florida and I realized that there are a few I want to share, but they don’t really deserve a blog post of their own. For example there was the view from our balcony at the Orlando Renaissance Hotel. We were so close to Sea World that we not only watched the 4th of July Fireworks in our jammies, we could hear the music and the announcer.
Of course the night before, we watched the 4th Fireworks Spectacular over the Magic Kingdom from the rooftop of Disney’s Wilderness Lodge Hotel. That is what we call a perk of having a daughter who works for Disney. There were about 12 of us on the rooftop, no crowds, no screaming kids and a breathtaking view.
There was the picture I took of my husband’s sandwich at a little Cuban restaurant in Winter Park, FL. It was a Cuban hamburger. A hamburger patty topped with ham, bacon, cheese, lettuce, tomato and a FRIED EGG! He loved it, but can you imagine if I’d made this for him at home? You think he would have eaten this? Talk about a heart attack in a sandwich!
I also just had to show you a few more pictures that I found in my mother’s things. The first photo is of my mother’s parents. I never knew my grandfather with hair, or my grandmother with dark hair. Isn’t this just the perfect 20’s photo?
I also found this photo of my mother and her older sister. What was so exciting about finding this photo, is that mom’s sister was always a mystery to us. She died when she was 6 as a result of having her tonsils out. The only thing I know is that the hospital gave her too much ether and killed her. My grandparents never mentioned her and my mom was only 4 when she died and had very little memory of her.
I’ll leave you with a little bit of table top. This is the table that is behind our loveseat. It is the frame in the middle that is special to me. When my mom was first sick, my husband brought it home as a surprise one evening. The Jim Croce song was special to us when we were dating, the beach theme is perfect for my house and yes, that is a picture of us when we were dating. He had hair and I was blonde, we’ve come a long way baby!
I am going to work backwards and link this to Table Top Tuesday with our hostess Marty @ A Stroll Thru Life. I'm also linking to Susan @ A Southern Daydreamer for Outdoor Wednesday.
Sue, I enjoyed these so much. Loved the firework shots. I know what you mean about being away from the madding crowd. We are blessed not to have to leave our house to see the fireworks in St. Augustine.
ReplyDeleteThat shot of your grandparents is wonderful, and so is the one of your mother and her sister in the little cart. How tragic about the hospital killing her sister! My mother lost a younger brother as the result of a tragic accident, and he was rarely mentioned, either. But both of my grandparents' hair turned white practically overnight from the stress and grief. Or so it was said.
I loved seeing you and your husband, too. Great pic!
XO,
Sheila :-)
Sue,

The fireworks pictures are great and looks like you had a premium spot to view from. Love the family pictures. It's always good to see our relatives in a differant light.
ReplyDeleteSue, I love that picture of the sheep cart! So quaint and cute. Your fireworks pics are spectacular...I have never been able to get great shots of fireworks! Joni
ReplyDeleteGreat post. I love your pictures of the fireworks. They are really spectacular. Your family photos are all so precious and your family history is such a treasure to know. I love the pic of you and DH and the card. They is so special. Thanks so much for joining TTT. Hugs, Marty
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing your trip to Florida, and your family pictures. When I lived in Florida, I ate Cuban Midnight sandwiches for lunch many times and loved them. Got one at a sandwich shop here a while back and it did not taste even close to the real thing. The Cuban hamburger does look and sound like a heart attack! :) Hope your modem shows up soon.
ReplyDeleteYou took fabulous pictures of the fireworks. Mine were just a blur. I wonder if I needed the night setting on my camera.
ReplyDeleteLove your old pictures. They remind me so much of a picture my mom had of herself and her older sister who died in surgery when she was only 12. I'm glad that I was born in a time when medical miracles are always happening.
Hope you have a wonderful week.
xoxo

Great pictures of the fireworks!
ReplyDeleteLove the old pictures of your family, love the old sepia shots.
Great pictures...the one with you and your husband is so cute! Even with my heart all broken up, I can still know happiness and love when I see it. :)
ReplyDeleteAlso - aren't Disney resorts KNOWN for feeding people incredibly artery-clogging stuff? All part of the magic, I guess...
I adore Disney World!! How fabulous to be able to have a special place to watch the fireworks! What wonderful pictures of your family!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great post! Loved all the fireworks photos - I've never been able to take good shots of fireworks, so I'm really amazed. And the family photos are so lovely and sweet!
ReplyDeleteHappy Outdoor Wednesday! from Joy @ Joysweb
I love love the old photos. Such a sad story about your mom's sis! Wow!! We had a kid die here in our town a few years back from the same thing--hard to believe is it not? His stitches broke in the middle of the night and he bled to death at home in his bathroom. His parents found him the next morning. No minor surgery is really minor. Yes, that sandwich looks deadly!!!
ReplyDeleteDon't you love Wilderness Lodge! Wonderful view. The sandwich is a hoot! thanks for stopping by.
ReplyDeleteSherry

The one of your mom and her sister when they were little especially struck me... So sad that she died due to a tonsillectomy!

ReplyDeleteThe picture of the sandwich - indeed, a heart attack is hidden in that huge hamburger sandwich.
Your grandparents - what a nice-looking couple!
The twin sisters - twins are always a mystery and here mystery became tragedy when one of the twins died at the age of six.
