Wishing For the Beach...Tablescape Thursday

When things get stressful for me, I find myself wishing for the beach. While there is a trip to the water in my near future, I decided to create the feeling with my table setting this week.

My table was inspired by my new appetizer plates that my daughter (didn't she do a wonderful guest blog) gave me for Mother's Day.

I started with a cream tablecloth, topped with bright green round placemats. This table is all about color. Cream napkins and new Crate and Barrel seaglass napkin rings finished the "base" for the table setting.

The wine glasses are vintage and the coffee mugs match the dinner plates. Each has a different shell. The flatware has a pewter look, but was really a bargain from either TJMaxx or HomeGoods a few months ago. Do you see the little glass fish? They are also a new Crate and Barrel purchase.

My daughter found the appetizer plates at Target, aren't they fun? The little fish votives I've had for many years.

The salad plates are actually plastic, from WalMart.

The china is Captiva purchased a few years ago at Bed, Bath and Beyond.

For the centerpiece, I started with a piece of driftwood from a Florida beach.

I added some seaglass pebbles (Crate and Barrel), a few shells that we've found over the years, a large coral piece and my glittered starfish for a little sparkle.

The flowers are tropicals, aren't they gorgeous? We had my mother's casket piece done all in tropical flowers and I have to say it was the most beautiful one I've ever seen. These are NOT from that piece. My aunt and uncle actually sent an arrangement that the florist decided to match to the other piece. My sister and I split the flowers and what you are seeing is the result of me putting them in a large vase that I've had many years.

And, by candlelight...

It is good to be back to blogging. I may be a bit slow catching up with all of you. My dad is staying with me for another 2 or 3 weeks. I will go back to Florida with him for a while when he leaves, my sister will go down when I come home. We are doing okay. We are sad and still a bit in shock as to what has happened over the past 3 months. We are also still able to laugh and enjoy things because she prepared us well for this time. Her services were just this past Monday and Tuesday, so we are still in "let down" mode after getting through those two days. I will post soon about how we spent the week between mom's passing and her service. You may be surprised.

Please join our hostess Susan @ Between Naps on the Porch for Tablescape Thursday. You will see wonder table settings. If you haven't tried it before, you really should jump in and play along with us.

Sue-I have not been visiting as much lately and I just read about your mom while I was browsing old posts. I am so sorry. From the very first time I saw your blog title it reminded me that we never get too old to want and need a mom. You know that yours is still with you in memories and the legacy of love she left behind. The beach is my "happy" place too--I just "transport" myself when I need to. I love the plates your daughter gave you and the centerpiece is beautiful. Take care and have a safe and happy Memorial Day weekend.

That is definitely my kind of table, and I just love your center piece!

Your daughter did a fantastic job on the guest blog, and I definitely learned a lot.

The beach is always the place to get my spirits up, whenever I need it.

Beautiful table ... we were just out at our beach house this past weekend, but we didn't set any tables as gorgeous as this!

I am sorry about your Mother. I lost mine on January 5th of this year, and I know what you mean about being in that "let down" mode, when all the hustle and bustle of the first aftermath settles down. We kept gathering as a family -- not ready to give that up and return to "normal." It's never entirely normal -- please accept my sympathies.

I'm glad you are back to blogging; it helps to keep connecting.
Best wishes to you and your family,
Cass

Sue, this table setting is just too darn FUN! I love the china pattern, and those appetizer plates are so cute. I have the melamine plates from Walmart, too. Also like the glamour and glitz beneath your floral arrangement. Sorry to hear about your mom's passing. Take care and know she will always be in your heart.
hugs, Sue

I love this! Your dishes and the appetizer plates are my kinda style ~ love the beach. I so understand it being a place to relax, change gears, let down, recuperate, invigorate, find peace, have fun and just be! Wish I were going too. :-) Your daughter's post and choice for the appetizer plates remind me of her mom. Great style!

My thoughts are prayers are still surrounding you. My mother passed away in April, '03 and this loss leaves a huge void. Her delightful spirit will always be with you and I know you have beautiful memories to treasure.

Sending my best to your dad and the rest of the family.

xoxo
Pat

HI Dear Sue
Well I find the beach the perfect place to soothe my soul! It calms me and helps me to see the beauty in the world... The flowers are lovely and very 'happy and energetic' which is probably just what you need right now! I hope things go easy over the next few months and your dad is able to find the rhythm of everyday routine again....

The beachscape by candlelight is gorgeous!!! so sweet.. Take care my friend.. I am keeping you and your dad in my thoughts!! xxx Julie

This is so pretty -- I'm ready for the beach! I found tablescaping to be somewhat theraputic when my Dad was so ill so close to the time my FIL passed away. I hope that you're having a nice visit with your Dad there -- I still miss my mother, she's been gone almost 8 years now -- thinking of you and sending {{{hugs}}}.

Hi Sue!
Oh, it's so nice to see you!

Your beach post is so detailed. I think the centerpiece is amazing. I can imagine everyone enjoying all aspects of your tablescape... even swirling around the tiny pebbles. Everything has so much texture to it!
Your daughter did a wonderful job guest hosting! She also knew exactly what you needed when she found the seascape plates!

God's tender care, family love, and sweet memories are my wishes for you ♥
