It is another Tablescape Thursday, time to pull out the Valentine colors and make my house look a little festive for the occasion. Our hostess Susan @ Between Naps on the Porch always has something fun to share with us. You will also find links to many fun and fabulous table settings.
I started my tablescape with a red tablecloth and some silver mesh fabric as a "table runner". Silver chargers, red dinner plates and fun white and red salad plates complete the look. I've been saving the plates to do this tablescape. I bought them after Christmas at Crate and Barrel. They are holiday plates, but they looked more Valentine-ish to me with the frilly edges.
I used my every day stainless flatware. The white napkins are tied with a bit of red and white ribbon, the same ribbon is woven into my serving piece from Southern Living at Home. The glasses were a wedding present and have our monogram on them. The white mugs are from Wal-Mart.
I think you should add a touch of whimsy to a holiday table. If you look closely you will see I added a few white and red gumballs to the silver fabric. There is also a tiny covered butter dish from Crate and Barrel, it is filled with conversation hearts.
The centerpiece is made from silk tulips. I will confess that it didn't turn out the way I planned. I had planned a topiary...but, I underestimated the number of tulips I needed. Of course I purchased them out of town and couldn't get any more. So, I ended up with this:
It happens. The best plans can fall apart and you have to think on your feet. So, I grabbed a small Waterford Crystal bowl, added a few conversation hearts and "planted" my tulips in the middle of it. I think it turned out quite pretty for a failed attempt at something else!
The candlesticks were a thrift shop find, they are Mikasa and were new. I paid $5 for the pair.
The cocoa pitcher I've had for many years. It is perfect for non-coffee drinking friends.
We probably wouldn't light the candles for a morning coffee, but it does make any table look prettier.

You can find historic pictures of the arcade in Nashville at the Library of Congress photo collection:

Click the blue button. You could probably find it easily by plugging in "nashville arcade" to the search box, but to narrow it down even more, scroll down to #36, Historic American Building Survey, and click, then plug those search terms into the box.
I'm ready to celebrate!! The cake plate is neat with that touch of ribbon!

Sue, I love your Valentines table! I must say that the centerpiece was one of the first tings to draw my eye! Despite the fact it didn't turn out the way you envisioned, your happy accident looks fantastic! I'm with you, the small plates really look more Valentines than Christmas! Have a great day...

Oh - and Valentine's Day this year is the same day as Chinese New Year. Red is a very popular color for that, too!
Oh, how I miss Crate and Barrel! Those plates are adorable. I kept looking for the info on the tiny red plates ontop of the scalloped ones until you said they were jello! How silly of me. Your table is fantastic and so-o romantic!
what a fancy table setting perfectly valentine themed! so pretty.
Beautiful table for valentines. I passed on those darling little plates when I was at Crate and Barrel after Christmas. Then when I went back to get them, there were no more. They did have the little footed dishes, which I bought. The sales person told me they had them last year too, so perhaps I'll get another chance to get a set of the plates. I agree, they look perfect for Valentine's Day. I used one of the footed bowls in my scape today. Thanks for sharing this romantic table!
Love your Valentine table. Thanks for sharing. Lia
