We have spent Christmas in Orlando the past 3 years. Some things that were very exciting the first time, or the second...have lost a bit of their luster for us. One thing that hasn't, is our trip to see the Osborne Lights at Disney's Hollywood Studios. The Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights is something that is truly difficult to describe. My pictures can't begin to show you what it feels like to be standing among all that color. Every 15 minutes or so, the lights all dim and holiday music will start to play. The lights will "dance" to the music, flashing on and off to the beat. Several times a night it will "snow" and no matter what the temperature, with the "snow" coming down, the music playing and the lights all around you...you know it is Christmas.
The Osborne Lights began in Arkansas in 1986, when Jennings Osborne decorated his home with 1000 red lights at the request of his 6-year-old daughter. Each year his display got larger and brighter. By 1993 there were over 3 million lights and people came from miles around to see the display. Sadly, his neighbors didn't appreciate the thousands of people that swarmed their neighborhood and took Osborne to court over the issue. Disney World took over the lights in 1995 and the display has continued to grow and now has 5 million lights. I think the pictures will speak for themselves. Enjoy!

So beautiful! I have been entranced by holiday lights my entire life, so this must really be something to see!
I know the feeling when it looks so much more amazing in person. When I came home from Vegas I tried to explain to my family what the fountain show at the Bellagio was like. They just didn't get my excitement.

Good heavens! Look at all those lights. Wow.
The lights are only as Disney could do them! And thanks for the recipe for thousand island dressing!
Spending the weekend with a little cherub sounds just perfect to me!

Can you believe I've never heard a word about this display? With all the photos you've posted from your trip, you've finally convinced this Floridian that going to Disney during the holidays just might be a good thing!
WOW! I've never been to Disney at Christmas but we did see the Easter Parade one year!
Thanks for sharing that!
Now that is a crazy number of lights. What a great story to go along with it. Not sure I'll ever make it to Disney World...so I love the pictures! Have a wonderful day. Holly
Wow Sue, that is alot of lights. We had someone in our town that had to shut down his light display last year because of the neighbors, however Budweiser (I think or one of the beer companies) had him do the house in there commercial last year. This one is just amazing! Dee Dee
Thanks for your sweet visit! This looks amazing! I can't imagine what this must look like in person.
What lovely photographs. I love all the blue they use in their decorations. It must be a blast to be there for the Christmas holiday.
That really must be an amazing experience.
I think it will be three years before we will make it to Disney, as we want all of our boys to get the most out of the experience.
We have spent 3 different Christmas' at Disneyworld. How did you get your pictures to come out so nice? Did you use a tripod? Mine are always blurry. Yours are beautiful!
PM-no tripod, no fancy camera. I have a Sony Cybershot and I just get lucky sometimes.
