This recipe is easily doubled. If you are having more than 4 people, or if you want leftovers, I suggest you double all the ingredients.
Ingredients:
I bag cole slaw mix
3 T. granulated sugar
3 T. white vinegar
2 T. vegetable oil (don't use olive oil)
salt and pepper
Rinse the bag of cole slaw mix and drain. (Please rinse the bagged vegetables that you buy, this is a pet peeve of mine. They really aren't all that clean even if they say they are washed) Add the sugar, vinegar, oil, a pinch of salt and pepper (to taste) and toss. You can serve it immediately, but it tastes better if it is allowed to sit for a little while. It will "shrink" a bit as it marinates.
My poor cookbook has seen better days, but it still gets pulled out of the cabinet when I need a basic recipe. It may say "new" but it is circa 1970's. I made sure my daughter had her own copy when she left home.

I just wanted to say hello and thank you for your blog. While I came to the world of blogging because of my son's addiction, my true passions are decorating and anything to do with the home. Notice I didn't say cooking?! lol... It just doesn't come natural to me, but I strive to be better. I LOVE YOUR RECIPES. They are doable and don't keep me in the kitchen for hours! I am orginally from Wisconsin and for some reason, your blog makes me feel right at home! : )
Hi Sue, Sounds like your life right now is in hyperspeed! So it means so much that you stopped by for a visit! Enjoy all the loved ones at your house. Mine is empty right now- until Thursday. My son is coming home for a very short visit.
Love the salad and parmasan shortbread recipies. I might take tose savory shortbreads to a Christmas partry I have been invited to.
Hug up those grandkids, dear friend!
Blessings,
Yvonne
Thank you for the well wishes....life is slowing getting back to normal but I think I will give it a few more days...your salad is just what I need..now I will have to find someone to make it for me. xoxoxo stay healthy
I have the same pet peeve. As soon as you mentioned washing the bagged produce, it took me back to a college field trip. I was somewhere in the Poconos with my biology class, staying overnight at a "summer" camp. The teacher pulled out all the bagged lettuce, and after a little pep talk I convinced my fellow students to start washing bags of lettuce. At first they thought I was crazy, but I got them convinced:)
mmmm i LOVE cole slaw period, and this salad looks great. i'm pretty sure i've seen that cookbook in my mom's and grandmother's collections!
Yummm. Something my mom would have made. I forget to make it myself though...and my kids would love it. Seem to remember that sometimes she would put in a little pineapple too. MMMM...home! Thanks for coming by today. Getting a late start today...just one of those days. Holly at LLL
Yummm! I have that old BH&G cookbook too and recently bought a new revised edition but still find myself going back to the original book!

Oh, Sue- NO ONIONS! My heart is sad for you. As we get through menopause it is amazing how things change! I can't eat peppers anymore, and I love them. Thanks for stopping by- have a blessed and wonderful day!
