A Winner, A Question and A Prayer Request

I want to thank everyone who entered my CSN giveaway. The winner of the $55 gift code was Sharon, who doesn't appear to have a blog or any info listed except her email. Therefore I can't tell you a thing about her or send you to her blog. Congrats to Sharon.

I noticed during this giveaway that several people said they were new followers by Google Friend Connect. What I also noticed was that my list of followers did not go up at the same rate that people said they were following. Several of those people do not appear in my list of followers. So...the question is, if someone follows by Google Friend Connect, should they show up in you followers list or are they following and we have no way to tell?

Prayer request: While we were in Florida, we got a  phone call that my mother-in-law had been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. Now we all know that this isn't good and considering that my mother has only been gone a few months...this has shocked our family. Once again it was a very unexpected diagnosis. She will be starting chemo soon. Surgery was an option, one that we hoped she would consider, but she opted not to do it. A combination of chemo and possible radiation seem to be the decision she felt comfortable with. My father-in-law isn't able to live alone and she has been taking care of him in many ways...so this is a real concern on how to help them through this time. Prayers for both of them would be greatly appreciated.

My dad just left. I am behind in every possible way around here. We all got through Christmas and actually enjoyed it. My dad did a great job shopping even without my mom...she would be so proud of him. It is time to regroup and get things organized around here. I also look forward to getting back to reading all of your wonderful blogs. I've missed you!

  1. I'm so sorry to hear about your mother in law Sue. Why does it seem like there is never an end to the bad news?

About the google friend follower...Always ask for people to follow you via google friend connect publicly. If they follow publicly, you can click on their name, and your blog needs to appear on their blog list on their profile page.

  3. Oh,sweetie... I'm so sorry about your MIL. Prayers just went up for her.

I have no idea about the other, Sue, as I don't do Friend Connect or Facebook or any of that jazz. I'm just lucky to be able to type!

So glad you had fun with your dad and that he enjoyed himself. Praying for strength for you to be able to cope with this new challenge facing your family.

    XO,

    Sheila :-)

  5. Oh Sue, I'm so very sorry ♥
I will definitely keep you, your husband, his mother and family in my prayers. This is such a difficult cancer. I had a neighbor, however, who beat the odds on time. She lived for quite some time after diagnosis. I will pray that your mother-in-law keeps her spirits and strength.

God lift you up and keep you in His care, Sue ~ as you care for and minister to your family ~

  7. There is so much sadness around Sue. Your MIL and all your family will be in my prayers.

I do know that I have signed up on a few blogs as a follower a while later I see I'm not there anymore. I think that's a google problem. Take care.

  8. Welcome back!

My number of followers keeps fluctuating several times a day. I'm confident I am not turning followers over that quickly.

I'm so sorry to hear of your MIL's diagnosis. Best withes for both your husband's parents and your entire family. La

  9. I am very sorry to hear this about your MIL - I will definitely add her to my prayers.
Yes - You have your followers under Google Friend Connect - same as I do. If a person is following, their "Blogger Photo" should show up and if they do not have one it will show the "generic photo" at the end of the list. I lose some (guess I get to boring for them) and gain some off and on. But if they are following, they should be showing up.

  11. I'll add your MIL to my driving prayer list - I pray while I drive, because it's the thing I'm sure to be doing every day, and praying is way better than listening to the drivel on the radio.
My followers list goes up and down - I think that people have to click on the 'follow publicly' button in order for us to see that they are following.

  14. Oh Sue, this was not the news you and Hubby needed at this time. I'm so sorry and will keep you all in my prayers. We found out at Thanksgiving time that my dad has prostate (sp) cancer and he opted for surgery which is scheduled for January 18th.
Congrats to the winner and welcome home!

  15. Sue, I do hope that things work out well for your MIL's condition. Sending good thoughts and prayers your way.
Re: I'm not so sure that Google Friend Connect and the Follow button at the top of a blog always work correctly. I've clicked on both and the sometimes the blog doesn't show up on my follower's list. I often have to go back in and subscribe to the blog manually through Google Reader. I think it the program has glitches. I've had others tell me they follow, but they don't show up on my list in GFC. As far as blogs appearing on the sidebar, often you have to go in on Google Reader and add them in. It isn't a given that they will automatically show up. Again- glitches....
Take care- I'm trying to stay warm in this snowy wintery weather!
