A Little Pampering Might Help!

It is no secret to my family that I "don't do winter" very well. It isn't the cold weather that gets to me...it is the lack of sunshine and the feeling of being stuck in the house. This year the sun seems to be on vacation far away from Illinois! I find myself having to fight the urge to pull a blanket over my head and sleep until spring. I decided a little pretty pampering might perk me up. A little cocoa, beautiful white tulips and some vintage linens and silver brightened up my afternoon.

I was really happy to find white tulips
at Walmart last night, they are my favorite!

I've had this cocoa pitcher for so long that
I don't remember where it came from.
Today, it became a vase!

Vintage Valentines make me smile.
A few old keys tied with a bit of ribbon
add a little color to my tray.

The silver pieces were my mothers. I love
this rectangular tray and the glass-bottomed
dish looks so pretty with red hots in it.

A delicate napkin softens the look.

The hot chocolate served in a big mug was
perfect while waiting for the big snowfall that
is expected tonight!

I am joining Susan @ Between Naps on the Porch for
Tablescape Thursday. I really appreciate Susan for hosting
the party every week. Please take time to visit her today!

  3. Sue, I love all your pampering. That hot chocolate pitcher is so cute and the old keys -- I really would love to collect some. Love the inherited silver too -- such pretty designs on the cloche. Sue, I want the snow and it is not coming -- could you send it my way. We do have the sunshine though. Joni

  7. I'm with you about winter, Sue. I just curl up in a ball and pray for spring, but this tablescape would help anyone banish the blues! Love it, and that pitcher is as cute as can be. I enjoy the fact that you use your mother's things. She would be so happy to know that you love them and share them with us, too. I did a tablescape today using my mother's china, and seeing it makes me miss her... but it also makes me smile because I remember so many happy times using it.

    Happy Tablescape Thursday, Sue!

    XO,

    Sheila :-)

  8. Hi Sue!

Will you share your hot chocolate with me? This is such a sweet and cheerful vignette. I love old skeleton keys.

I thought of you this morning. I was waiting at a light behind a car whose license plate read DSNY LVR. Have a fabulous day! We're expecting 3-5 inches of snow.

  10. What a pretty setting to pamper yourself. I am right there with you - I don't like Winter either. Have never been a cold weather person.
Suppose to start snowing here this afternoon. :(

  13. Me again! :D From what she told me, she kept the sentimental/valuable pieces and these were just some odds and ends, like a missing earring, broken pin, etc.. The charm bracelet came like that and were not charms her Mother had accumulated. I did a little research and found a couple of the same bracelets listed on ebay. Old, but not sure at this point if in the category of vintage.
Got about 1 and half inches of snow today which is no biggie, but there is a big concern about ice tonight.
    Enjoy your evening.

  14. I'm with you, sister! This winter thing is getting REALLY OLD, REALLY FAST!!! I'm in the Kansas City, MO area, and we got dumped with 7+ inches last night. We're expecting even more tomorrow and over the weekend. I suspect it'll be headed your way soon if it hasn't already arrived. Sorry! :-( Your vignette is beautiful, though, and definitely cheery! The white tulips give us hope that spring is not too far off! Have a great weekend, and try to stay warm. Hope you get some sunshine soon!

  17. Ciao and best wishes for 2011, I am back at last catching up on so much that I missed while I was away from the blogsphere!

I can empathise with you as I do not do winter well either. If possible I would miss winter and live two summers a year :)

  18. Beautiful! It is so good when we pamper ourselves. :-) I'm with you on this bitterly cold weather. We haven't had the snow you have...or that we had last year...but it is so depressing on these gray days. I think it was about 2 wks before we saw the sun here and that is not good. I dislike the intense heat we have too so I should place my order for the "Perfect" weather, huh?

    Stay warm!

  20. Oh hang in there. I know winter can be hard, but try to enjoy the down time. I love how those red hots look with the white heart in the middle.
