...Featuring Norah Jones

I think by now most of you know that not only do I love music, I'm lucky enough to get to review new albums once in a while. What you may not know, is that I really want to love everything they send me to listen to. When I was asked by One2One Network to check out the new Norah Jones CD before it is released on November 16, I was excited. Norah Jones has won 9 Grammy's and yet the only song of hers that I was truly familiar with was "Don't Know Why" from her 2002 debut album.

Norah Jones has collaborated with many artists over the years and this new album is a compilation of those songs. It was recorded from 2001 to 2010 and the range of diverse musical styles does show just how well Jones adapts from genre to genre. She seems to be "classified" as a pop singer, but in my opinion her vocal style is much more what I consider jazz or blues. Some of the people she sings with on the new CD are Foo Fighters, Ryan Adams, Dolly Parton, Herbie Hancock and her famous duet with Ray Charles, "Here We Go Again" from his last album.

As for my opinion of the CD, I really wanted to like it. I've played it through 3 times now and it simply isn't my musical taste. I would be very curious to see what Norah Jones fans think of it, because I know that each song is well done and each person or group she works with is a star in their own right. This just happens to be a musical style that I don't enjoy, so my thoughts are that if you are more into rock, current pop or even an occasional country ballad as I am, this might not be for you. If however, jazz and lazy blues music is your thing...you will love this.

  1. I'm actually working on a review of this cd right now. I am a HUGE Norah Jones fan, and I love the first song. However, after that not so much. It's not that I don't like it, its just that I'm not a fan of all of these duets.
