Met, Blue and Mosaic Monday and a Winner!

A couple of weeks ago my husband did his early Saturday morning neighborhood garage sale walk. He didn't do this until I started blogging and now he enjoys trying to find me little surprises. I'm not willing to get up that early on a Saturday morning. He came home with this decorative birdhouse (complete with fake bird). It was 50 cents and he was so proud of his purchase. I immediately had visions of it in white filled with...something. I'm not sure what yet.

The bird had to go. Some white spray paint
and a little dark stain and it looks so much better.

Now for a bit of the unusual. Early in the summer we planted a very tiny Morning Glory vine on a decorative piece of iron that we purchased a few years ago in Charleston, SC. It was a single stem about  2 1/2 feet tall. All summer long it grew...and grew...and grew. It completely swallowed the artwork under it. It took over the entire corner of our rock garden area and it is still growing and spreading. But, it never had a bloom. Not a single Mornng Glory on the most healthy plant we have ever had...until last week. It is starting to bloom, in October. We have had our first frost and we didn't cover the plant...and it is starting to bloom.

The monster plant.

Interestingly enough, as the leaves are falling off the trees, our hibiscus are still blooming too. The plants are covered with buds and blooms. I think Illinois was so hot this summer that it thinks it is in the tropics now!

And now the WINNER of a $55 CSN Gift Code...

  2. Yay, I won! TY, Sue :)

And I wish I had someone to get up early and hit those garage sales for me too. Sweet how once you start doing something those around become invested in it too and do little things like to that to please you.

  4. I really like your birdcage! Your husband did good. :D The heat this Summer did mess up blooming plants here also. I looked out this morning and have some new blooms on an impatien that I had given up on, but still watered on occasion.
    Congratulations to the winner.

  7. That bird house looks like a soft blue, not white. I kinda like it!

What a delight those blooming plants are. Maybe they like a little chill, although I know that hibiscus love the sun.

    Happy Blue Monday, Sue.

  8. Morning Kathleen,
Love your new bird house, and 50cents, oh my goodness what a great deal!! I like the white better too, so fresh and clean. Course, in the right place the other patina would work too.
Shows up much better white tho.

That is a nice lil ritual your hubby has going there, and fun for you!! Don't you love when they find lil things to do to make life fun for us!! That's truly a blessing.

    Have a Marvelous Monday,
    Blessings, Nellie

  19. The bird cage is great! I can imagine all sorts of "enhancements" for it. Isn't it funny how the plants do their own thing? Just shows that Mother Nature is still in charge.

Hope you have a wonderful week!

  21. Hi Sue!
    Congrats to the winner!

Now about that birdcage! I think I would faint if my husband went to a garage sale by himself {that didn't have tools right out front on display} and then brought something decorative!
Wow... I need to leave this post up for him to see tomorrow!
    LOL

I remember a while back, Yvonne @ Stone Gable, had a wedding shower at her house. She used two birdhouses as part of her tablescape. They were so beautiful on the table!

Wishing you a wonderful week, Sue!
    Bless you always ~ Maria

  25. My petunias died back this summer and kind of dried out because I forgot to water :-)

I pulled all the dead plants out of the planters and threw the pots on the side of the house. Then they started to bloom and thrive!

    Take a look!
