I've missed a few weeks of Tablescape Thursday. Most of you know I'm in Florida for a while with my parents because my mom has been very ill. By next week I hope to pull out some of her dishes and set her gorgeous dining room table. But, this week I'm still just finding brief moments to blog and I wanted to share with you our Easter Dinner table setting. Please join our hostess Susan @ Between Naps on the Porch to see all of the beautiful tables this week.
There you have it! Of course as a blogger, I did have my camera ready! Easter Dinner this year for me was with my parents on the patio at the rehab center. We had a delicious carry out meal from Outback Steakhouse. My dad had ribs, mom and I had small steaks, grilled veggies and baked sweet potatoes. It was a sunny, warm day and the first time I had Easter alone with my parents since 1960 (before my sister was born). My husband and my son were in Illinois going to church and then grilling steaks, my Disney daughter had to work a 15 hour shift...so she pretty much missed the entire holiday.
Some of you may remember my Christmas Eve tablescape. It was in a hotel room in Orlando. So how is it that a family that always had traditional holiday meals has become a family who has holidays that are simply odd. I really can't answer the question, other than life happens and you can either sit in a corner and whine about how things used to be, or you can laugh at the strange things you are doing and enjoy the moments.
This Easter was probably my best. I missed my kids, grandkids and my husband. I hated that rehab center and luckily my mom was only there 5 days. It is more difficult to manage her care at home, but she is working very hard and the joy of being in her own surroundings makes it worth it. My mom almost wasn't with us for Easter, so if I was eating out of styrofoam and wearing capris and a t-shirt, if there was no ham or fancy dessert, who really cares. We decided that we liked what we were eating better than some of the traditional foods that we'd had for years. My mom's favorite phrase has always been "go with the flow" which isn't something that I do all that well. I'm really getting a life lesson in what matters and what doesn't.
I'm still working on getting around to visiting all the blogs I follow. I started at the bottom of my list and I'm working my way up. Once I've done that...I'll be ready to just read the daily posts and get back to normal blogging. Normal will feel good.
The main thing is you spent Easter together!!
ReplyDeleteHaving an ill mum is excusable in whatever may be encounter in our lives.
ReplyDeleteShe the most important of your moment so, go ahead and be busy with your family. Nice to hear that your were spending happy moments with your family.
Happy TT
I so agree with your mom! Life is so much easier & full of surprises when we do 'go with the flow'. I think it's wonderful that you had the Outback take-out and spent such a special day with each other. Can't beat that! Of course, I know you missed the rest of your family too.
ReplyDeleteSo glad your mom is making progress! Prayers continue for all of you. Get some rest, ok? I'm glad you had a few minutes to check in.

ReplyDeleteYou have the right attitude! And takeout from The Outback is always great. I know your parents are so happy and thankful you are there.
ReplyDeleteThe best part is you were with your parents. hope your mother keeps progressing nicely.
ReplyDeleteIs it difficult to find vintage dishes for your tablescapes??
ReplyDeleteI'll take a paper plate and dixie cup anyday to be with family. I am so glad you chose this for your time. You can never get back the moments with loved ones, but you can always set the table and have a fancy dinner. You were so blessed to be with your mom, and definitely the choice the Lord would have made. God Bless. Hugs, Marty

I've been thinking on the Bible story of Martha and Mary... Martha concerned about her guests and hospitality, Mary~ at the feet of Jesus. {a time and place for everything}
When Martha comes to Jesus to complain, Jesus tells her that Mary has chosen the better part.
For this time, your presence there at the side of your mother ~ is the better part.
God bless you, Sue! You have a great spirit!

Blessings to you. I had two Christmases with a sick child, who is well now. The holidays are all the more sweeter. May your mother continue to get well.
ReplyDeleteIt was who you were with that counts. Glad to hear your Mother is doing so well. I see you have some of the same "fine china" that I have! :-D
ReplyDeleteYou know what's important girl. That's one reason I like you so much!
ReplyDeleteWhen life gives you lemons, make lemonade! You have certainly done that! I hope your mom continues to improve.
ReplyDeleteIt's funny how we still learn at all ages. We can never know everything there is to know.
ReplyDeleteGoing with the flow helps often, though there are times not to.
You will be able to have your traditional dinners again in the future. In the meantime, I think you're handling the current situation very graciously and and with a good deal of optimism, which is always good.
The best decor for tablescaping is to have family at the table -- so glad that you were able to spend this time with your Mom.
ReplyDeleteI love your Easter Tablescape! We all have our "day dream" life and our real life. And I am sure that this Easter Dinner with your parents will be a special memory forever. Best wishes for her recovery.
