I don't know which is more fun, playing with my dishes and creating a table for Tablescape Thursday or visiting all the other blogs and seeing the gorgeous table settings. Please visit our host Susan at Between Naps on the Porch and check out some of the other participants. You won't be disappointed.
This week I decided to have a little fun with my table. I set it for a simple Halloween dinner for four. I changed my table this week from my glass top Crate and Barrel table to my grandmother's antique oak table. I thought it looked "warmer" for winter. Now, if I can just remember where we put the leaves when we moved here 6 years ago.
I am learning that having patio doors near the dining room table isn't great for pictures. Even on a gray day, it does strange things to the lighting.
For napkins, I used a package of "bar towels" that I found at TJ Maxx, tied with a bit of candy corn ribbon. I like the way the texture added to the casual setting.
In the center of the table, a black placemat, a few gourds, some candy corn and pumpkin tealights cast a glow on my "not so spooky" pumpkin guy and some BOO blocks.
I think it turned out fun, festive and affordable. I wish my kids were home to enjoy it!
so cute! i love the little gourds!
ReplyDeleteOk...you inspire me...you must have oodles of dishes and your creative ideas are amazing! xoxxo
ReplyDeleteOooh, it's getting to be that time of year! With our first rain of the season, it really feels like autumn.
ReplyDeleteOur Halloween in Southern California is often flavored with Dia de Los Muertos decor and food, and I'm looking forward to some of that.
Lexie-thanks! They are cute aren't they?
ReplyDeletekoralee-have you looked at the other Tabletop Thursday tables? OMG, most of them are so fabulous. I thought I had a lot of dishes until I saw all the things some of the others have. Now, I just want to go get more things!
g-Why don't you do a table setting with some of those items. That would be a very interesting table!
OK girl I'm been coming by here since you started your blog and have yet to find out what your name is...I can't call you Mom now and girl sounds so silly...so give it up...Now I love this table you did this week looks really cute girl...Oh see I called you girl again ha ha!! ReplyDeleteFall is just my all-time favorite time of year to decorate for. Your table is great! Thanks for sharing those great pictures. I'm still working on how to get my pictures to look good on my blog. Holly at lifelaughlatte.blogspot.com
ReplyDeleteGloria-I posted on your blog, but I'll answer you here too. My name is Sue. I try to sign my name to comments, but sometimes I forget. Thanks for the kind words, this one was fun to put together.
ReplyDeleteHolly-most of the time I just upload my pictures as I take them. On occasion I go to picnik.com and you can do really great things to your pictures there, for free.
ReplyDeleteA fun "boo" tablescape -- Love your Halloween look.
ReplyDeleteYou sure know how to put charm on a table. I thought I had done good, when I found new place mats at the dollar store, but I am definitely lacking your skills.
ReplyDeleteYour children are so lucky, as are you! We really do shape our psychological state through our controllable physical environments, and I hope to one day keep as beautiful a home as you.
ReplyDeleteIt looks wonderful! Great job!
Frug-I'm sure your placemats will hold up after you wash them. Mine will probably fringe themselves away. I actually went in our dollar store yesterday. I had only been in there once a few years ago. It was fun.
ReplyDeleteBB-You are so great for my ego. Believe me, my son and I have had a very stressed relationship over the past few years. That parent/child relationship has ups and downs forever I think. I'm sure you will have a very nice home of your own one of these days.
How wonderful your table setting is!
ReplyDeleteI hopped over from Koralee's... This looks like a fun meme! I'll have to visit every Thursday!
All the best, Maria
Maria-thanks for the visit and the comment. I'm new to both blogging and this tablescape fun, but I'm having a blast with both.

I can see how that can confuse people having the out door Wed at the top and Tablescape Thursday under it. That's because blogger is new to me and I don't know how to change the dates when I make up my post ahead of time. I will have to go read about that. I have a lot to learn about blogger. I like wordpress better, well my own that I can control of my own domain. I am a control freak I guess. Thanks for visiting my out door Wed though that was sweet. Have a wonderful day!
I like that you didn't spend tons of money on all the pieces. Inexpensive fabric, bar towels. Good thinking. Really a fun themed table.
